How come old stupid nicknames are O.K, but new stupid ones aren't?

Knickerbockers? -old ass socks
Nets? - how very smart and creative
Nuggets? -really? maybe we can be the hail stones or bricks.

If any of these names were chosen today, they'd be ripped for idiocy.

toronto basketball club

keep it simple

but end of the day i still like the Raptors name, i hated it at first, but it has grown on me

i like calling them the raps

the only issue i have with the Raptors is the jerseys they suck, i wish they were blue and white like hte leafs, same colors, and wish they used classy letters on the jersey,

I love the black jersey's, and like the red away jersey's. Take away the chevrons on the side and I think we have great jersey's.

Lots of teams have changed colours.

I suppose the Raps could use a blue and white scheme like Duke.

The Toronto Hogs isn't so bad.

But, going with Hogtown instead of Toronto in the name opens up some possibilities.

Our country's colours were not always red and white nor was a maple involved until 1967 or whatever when the Liberal party matched the new flag to their colours. Leafs have been around a wee bit longer...

While this is somewhat true, Dinosaur bones are found here in western Canada. Even though the Raptors are "Canada's team", it would have made more sense (logistically) for the Vancouver team to have been named after dinosaurs.

That's what I was getting at with the "Medicine Hat Raptors". Dinosaur Provincial Park is closest to Medicine Hat I think, and maybe 100 KM from Calgary. I think that's the main source for dinosaur bones in Canada.

I think the Burgess Shale fossils near Banff are all marine fossils from about 500 million years ago, and dinosaurs didn't appear until about 250 million years ago.

When I was a kid in Ottawa I used to find Trilobite fossils all the time.

The NBA should take a lesson from the CFL and have two teams with the same name. The Toronto Lakers works for me.

I agree that those throwback Huskies uniforms are boring, and the lettering looks amateurish.

Also, the name isn't really relevant to the city.

One more criticism is the lack of originality, since UConn has a very well established basketball program that goes by the same name.

I'm kind of surprised that nobody else likes the railroad ideas, because I thought those ideas were my best.

Toronto Union Basketball Club, considering the location of the ACC, is a really unique, relevant and classic sounding name. The casual name would be the Unis.

The Toronto Locomotives has a nice ring to it.

Also, the Toronto Turbines I think is pretty good, though maybe not so much a railroad idea.
