Which makes Colangelo perfect for the job.

Funny thing is, if they fuck this hire up, and continue to get nowhere fast, I'll be looking for American teams to follow ahead of my hometown Toronto team. And I probably won't be alone.

Whats wrong with making this Canada's team? It already is, I don't get it. I'm not sure how much more they can make it Canada's team, but I don't see a problem with it.

I do. If it's as you say Canada's team then why add more Canadian content/advertising/logo's/flag's when everyone fuckin' damn well knows this already? Do they seriously believe that draping the flag over everything will make elite american players want to play here?

That's not the concern. The idea is to get Dario's friends in Vancouver buying jerseys and watching broadcasts fervently as if it was a Vancouver team. It's not a bad idea, but success is going to be a necessary part of it. Nobody, including Torontonians, is going to feel like embracing a long-standing losing franchise.

I would guess this move is to make more $ and attract more fans, not so much about FA's.

that's pretty much my point. They already changed the colour scheme to red and white (and black). They already put a maple leaf on the uniform. What possibly more is there to do? Deck out the whole thing with multiple maple leaves a la TFC? anymore and it's going to be excessive.

It's just that this whole rebrand thing is lame. Like acie put it businessmen looking to make more money. well la dee freaking da.

they want a rebrand that won't suck? go back to the teams roots and before jeffb tells everyone how much he hates the purple i have beaten him to the punch.

otherwise put the rebrand on hold until you have some way more important things sorted out. Like how not to suck.

Sticking more Candian flags of canadian content around the team isn't going to get some schmuck on the other side of the country to be a Raptor fan. A Vancouver logo would get Vancouver people to become Raptor fans, beyond that they already know the team is based in a Canadian city. Winning will get fans.

John Shannon was on the fan yesterday and he was talking about the early 2000's when Carter was at his height here. He was working at CBC and he said they were worried that the Raptor playoff games were generating nearly 1milion viewers and at the time the NHL playoffs were at about 1.6mil on average. He was called by his bosses and they were concerned. This imo is part of the problem.....NHL centric media that run down the NBA partly due to the fact that the two seasons coincide. Even when they talk about the Raptors many of them talk down about the sport/team and usually have to crowbar hockey into the conversation. To me that's not very healthy and it underminds the growth of the team/sport. Now obviously winning cures all and their abysmal history is mostly to blame but there is very very little help from the general media which show an obvious double standard and to a degree have a vested interest in hockey continuing to thrive and not have any sport not played in the summer fail in this country. Not that hockey would ever fail, but i garantee you most hockey media in the country (which probably accounts for 80% of the sports media) don't want the Raptors to succeed. And the Raptors organization has obliged them by their piss poor play and overall moves which at times has been baffling. And all of that has nothing to do with how many candian flags are seen in the arena, in team adds, on the floor or on team uniforms.

I hear what you're saying but I have to agree with the others like Jeff and LX. There's already enough as far as appearance and they already play in Canada.

What they need to do is make a better effort to have at least one canadian player on the roster. There's so many young canadian talent that's good enough to be in the NBA. If they can make room to trade for guys like Telfair(who never plays) and journeymen like Anderson, they could take a gamble on prospects like Kris Jospeh or even Andy Rautins, who may even have extra motivational and comfort playing for their home team. They need to treat it like how the Montreal Canadiens try to hire at least a French speaking or bilingual coach. Get the young Canucks in,much rather see that than scrubs like Gray and washed up vets like Pietrus warming the bench.

I find it hard to believe TL is stupid enough to soak the team in Canada flags and other related stuff.

Like it or not, Hockey is the number one sport in Canada. Always will be, and I doubt that any media cares whether or not the Raptors are successful. Jeff, you sound like you think they have a vendetta or something against the Raptors. TSN and Sportsnet I'm sure want them to be MORE successful due to the fact that they would likely see an increase in ratings. CBC doesn't give a rats ass now that they don't show the games anymore.

Don't listen to a thing John Shannon says. That dumb ass and his soothsaying crystal ball glasses is a total boob.

don't think that sticking more Canadian flags will be their approach. TL seems much more intelligent than that to me. I would imagine that they are going to try and create more fans outside TO, by having youth basketball clinics, friendlies, meet and and greet a raptor etc. all over Canada...
You get the little rats to like the team and you will get their parents cheese!

i liek the Raptors now but it took me years to like it, but if they were the huskies from day one they would have been better off

to bad that dinosaur movie didn't come out after the Raptors got awarded a franchise would have saved a millions threads on thsi topic alone
