Exclamation Reggie wants to stay in Toronto

Quote:
It hit Reggie Evans as he sat in the Raptors locker-room basking a memorable victory. He and his teammates were laughing and joking and disappointment of the season was forgotten in the moment when Evans came to a realization.

He likes it with Toronto.

And he doesn’t want to leave.

“When we were playing Oklahoma, after the game, I was talking to I think DeMar (DeRozan), Joey (Dorsey), Sonny (Weems), all of them, in the locker-room and I was like, ‘man, I enjoy playing with you all,’” Evans said before the Raptors had their game-day shootaround here Wednesday morning.

“I was like, ‘Man, the way I feel right now, I don’t really want to be a part of no other team or teammates.’ I like them a lot and here a lot.’”

There’s no question the 30-year-old Evans has had a significant impact on the Raptors in the short time he’s been with the team. Despite suffering foot injuries that have cost him more than half of each of his two seasons with Toronto, he has become a huge fan favourite thanks to his energetic style of play and he is by far the team’s best rebounder.

He’s also become something of a sage to the young players — like DeRozan, Amir Johnson, Ed Davis and Weems — who would be wise to emulate his work ethic and professional approach to his craft.

“I’ve kind of been put into a veteran’s roll early in my career,” said Evans. “I really wasn’t expecting it, I really wasn’t, but fortunately I’m in that situation and some of the young guys look for some type of advice or some kind of encouragement when they’re down, you know. “I help keeping their heads up, staying poised. It’s been fun.”

I figured this much when that article came out a few weeks back about how hes going to spend his summer here. Considering the guy is in the last year of his contract, I figured this was a sign that he liked the team and city. If the price is right, we should keep reggie (although his foot injuries really bother the hell out of me).

Andrea (or the magical, mystical dream center were going to get when trading him)- Reggie
Davis - Amir

I agree. His worth ethic is contagious and the team and fans love him. Its up to BC to make the dollars work. He's not worth Kapono-type money (not that Kapono is either) but I'd be more than comfortable with him getting $3-4 Million a season for 2-3 years.

We'll see how this plays out during the summer. But I maintain that we NEED Reggie. Especially since we seem to always catch the injury bug.

Thats up to the Coach. Reggie and Davis could play together.

There's my only issue. You have to play Davis/Amir a lot. And i would assume Bargnani is back. I wouldn't want to pay him more then the vet minimum considering he's played about 40 good games here in 2yrs and received 10Mil as it is.

I agree with you Jeff but when you've got a guy that averages 12 rebounds a game its tough to see him signing here for a vet's minimum. I also think that if Reggie was healthy BC would have had a shitload of offers for him @ the deadline.

Sure he loves Toronto, but does he love it enough to take a $4-5 Million paycut.... (if hes willing to take the vets min)

If you translate that into Bosh-eese it means Reggie has decided he's leaving.

Theres always a possibility that another team, contender perhaps? will offer him money. Do we match it then? Or hope he likes Toronto more?

i totally don't mind Reggie here if it's for peanuts and he has a reduced role on the court.

Toronto would be silly not to resign this guy. What he brings to this team. We havent seen in many years. And its so hard to tget guys to want to be here.

I have no problem resigning Reggie and using one of Amir/Davis/Bargnani as trade bait. In fact it's a situation I actually prefer.

He's so one dimensional it isn't funny. Reggie's success here just shows how shitty the Raptors are. I like the guy for his attitude and his work ethic, but he really souldn't be counted on as a 'difference maker.' And if he is, your team isn't going anywhere.

Depending on the money involved the Raptors would be very very silly to sign him.

Reggie is a great floormate for Bargnani - they each do very well what the other is awful at. I'd be all for resigning Reggie for 2-3 years, at 2-4 million per year.
