Bryan Colangelo used magic that would make Harry Potter envious in getting veteran SF Devean George and SG Antoine Wright out of Dallas as well as being able to keep the MLE thanks in large part to his Orlando counterpart, Otis Smith.

With a four-team trade in the books, it couldn’t have taken more than a couple minutes to get it done I’m guessing, he was able to get a starting small forward and a starting shooting guard, something that cannot be understated because it allows rookie Demar DeRozan to develop at his own pace and with no pressure.

Gotta let the kid grow au naturelle.

The addition of Turkoglu instantly gives the Raptors one of the best starting fives in the conference and maybe more importantly, it lets the rest of the league know that they mean business this season. The Raptors instantly got bigger and it’s going to be hell for opposition coaches to come up with defensive schemes to stop Bargnani, Bosh and Turkoglu.
Three giants, all of whom aren’t afraid to take the jump shot.

With Turkoglu patrolling the outside, it may force Bargnani to play deeper in the post at the START of the play. Instead of seeing where the ball is going, he can now set up down low as soon as they get into an offensive set because they will have both Turkoglu and Calderon handling the ball, two guys who can pass.

Thus, if Bargnani plays deeper in the post, he’s much more likely to snag offensive boards than say if he was playing at the top of the circle, something he’s become accustomed to doing in his three years in Toronto.

The Raptors have also signed Jarrett Jack of the Indiana Pacers to an offer sheet worth just over $20 million over four years. The Pacers now have until Tuesday to match. Right now it’s hard to tell if they will match or not, but most signs point to them not being able to. Not because they don’t want to but because their financial situation doesn’t allow them to.

Colangelo must have spoken to Jack before offering him this and made one thing very clear to him: you are not fighting for a starting point guard spot on this team, Jose Calderon is the starter and you are the backup. Jack was in a heated battle with TJ Ford, former Raptor, all season long last year to be Indiana’s top point guard.

Meanwhile, Carlos Delfino has apparently been offered $4 million a season by the Raptors, according to International reports. He’s holding out for $5 million a season. What part of economic recession does this character not understand? Take it and run Carlos. Colangelo should say take it or leave it and then move on to other business, this off-season is far too important to sit-and-wait for one player when there’s other players being scooped up by teams you’ll be competing against this season.

Linas Kleiza anyone?

I’d pick him up before trying to sign Delfino. He’s a guy who can do many similar things but will most likely come cheaper and would be a perfect addition to this team. He’s also only 24 years of age and would be a great backup to Turkoglu.

Speaking of backups, from everything you hear out there, it seems as if Rasho Nesterovic to Toronto is a no-brainer. He loves the city, still has a house here, and Colangelo has spoken openly during interviews about his admiration for the Slovenian centre.

What a great couple of weeks it’s been for Raptors Nation. Your general manager makes a trade that instantly makes them a threat in the East, not to mention makes him a contender for the Executive of the Year award once again, and now there’s talk of bringing in actual talent, not just minimum salary guys to fill out the rotation.

The only thing that would make this off-season better is probably waking up tomorrow and hearing of a Marcus Banks’ trade.

Harry Potter indeed has nothing on Bryan Colangelo, for he doesn’t eat lollipops, but finds suckers.

If Delfino doesn't re-up, we can't exactly take that money and give it to Kleiza. Our MLE was used to get Jack.

Ahhh, I love seeing blog posts like this

How much is Kleiza? From my understanding we have the bi-annual, vet minimum, MLE right?

MLE = 5.6 mil?
vet minimum = 2 mil?
bi-annual = ?
Jack = 5 mil
Rasho = vet minimum
Kleiza = ? (is he worth .6 mil + the bi-annual??)

So he's got Antoine Wright starting.

He's restricted. Utah would match that in a heartbeat. Our best bet for a Bi Annual signing is probably Barnes.

Denver. But you're right. He is worth more than 2 M imo and probably knows it.

4 M Delfino? You can't get two Kleiza's for that.

Maybe he becomes an option if Jack stays in Indiana.

I hope Delfino signs. The only way we can hope to get either Barnes or Kleiza is through a sign-and-trade cuz at this point we have nothing to give them and the only way we can offer them something is if we have there bird rights

Maybe S&T Delfino. I'd like Delfino to sign with the Raptors but not if he's going to be grumbling all season long.

Need Rasho to sign first. A good solid veteran backup to Bargs that can score is much more important then Delfino is.

Then Barnes is really overrated on this board. Barnes has been complimented for his versatility in being able to play multiple positions, yet is a below average defender for the most part. Delfino is a better rebounder, defender, passer, and creator. Barnes anticipates certain things better and is an open shooter but thats about it.

Maybe it was just because he was on PHX and GSW, but his defensive EFFORT hasnt been good these past few years.
