RealGm: Grading the deal

Quote:
Grade for Raptors: B+

Offensively, the Raptors will be vastly improved with Turkoglu in tow. The Toronto playmakers on the wings have been unquestionably ordinary, with Anthony Parker and Jason Kapono serving as primarily spot-up perimeter shooters.

The Raptors were net positive in PER production at center, power forward and point guard in 08-09, according to 82games, but they were -3.2 and -3.8 at the two wing positions.

Turkoglu will be used by the Raptors on a lot of the same pick and roll sets with Chris Bosh, as he was in Orlando with Dwight Howard. Bosh's ability to hit jumpers from 15-20 feet out will make that offensive unit potentially more lethal than the Magic.

Andrea Bargnani will serve as the de facto Rashard Lewis, with his length and ability to hit the 3-pointer.

I still believe Jose Calderon is one of the best of non-All-Star point guards in the NBA and giving him another ballhandler will only help preserve him.

Toronto will continue to give up a lot defensively and that is the principal difference between the elite Eastern Conference teams (Boston, Cleveland, Orlando) and that next tier (Toronto, Washington). Turkoglu is either an overrated or underrated defensive player, depending on the wave of reports about his defense. He isn't terrible by any means, but is far less of a liability when he is flanked by Howard and Lewis rather than Bosh and Bargnani.

Losing Turkoglu will hurt the Magic more than they are admitting at this point, though the financial ramifications clearly forced their hand to some degree.

Yeah, they made no mention of the impact this deal has on our ability to round out the roster.... which takes it from B to A+.

Fuck.

"if BC added Banks"

He just a part of one the most complicated trades ever, got the guy we wanted all along, got a young guy in Wright for depth and also got George-both of whom are expiring contracts as well.

Also got to keep both the MLE and LLE and BAE and people here think he needed to find a way to include Banks?

Fuck

This will go down as one of the best moves this franchise has ever made!

A+ as it gives us so much more than we had without it!

This should be enough to convince critics that this team is moving the right way and the room to keep CB4 here for a long long time!

Well done BC, I am a believer now!!

tommy, are you serious?? this team is much better than it was last year... the main concern now is developing a solid team defensive concept and i can promise that Jay and Marc will have this team playing solid defense from the glass out... we may not have a DPY candidate, but we will win more than 41 games this season.. i hope that will be enough to get into the playoffs as the east has become a log-jam of very good teams...

By far yes.

By adding....Turkoglu/Evans/Derozan (So far)

And subtracting....Graham/Kapono/AP/Jawai/Hump

Our depth this year once we add Delfino/Rasho and another SF or PG will be much better then last season.

As for Marion vs Turkoglu

Turkoglu: Can shoot, create for other players, great facilitator,Takes some pressure off Calderon therefore with him in the lineup there should be much better ball movement on offence and in transition.

Marion: Better rebounder, Better defensivly, more athletic....

Verdict: Marion would make us better on D.....Turk makes us much better on Offence and is the SF with ball handling creative ability we've lacked for years.

Don't know yet. Could be better or worse. It has potential.

1. We don't know how Turk will fit in.
2. Calderon is still injured. Will Ukic improve?
3. We don't know how good/bad DeRoz will be.
4. Bench is worse for scoring depth but better D.
5. Still no D to stop other teams slashers. Can't count DeRoz since he has no experience.
6. Rebounding will likely be worse.
7. Coach is unproven.

Nah, just that an A has to be really awesome. Equivalent to getting a semi-all-star for nothing. Like when we lost VC.

Well, keep in mind that BC still has money to throw around at players. Once he finalizes the roster, I'm sure many of those problems will be addressed.
