The REAL reason why we are frustrated

So let’s put things in perspective here… we were all shocked when we drafted Jonas last night, this is no surprise here but I will admit that I am very disappointed and I want to explain why, and I am sure a lot of RF guys will relate to that.
Drafting Jonas could have been huge for as if we have had another top 10 pick, which means we could have drafted Walker/ Knight.
The Raps are desperate for some swagger and leadership and I feel like Walker could have been a great fit for us.
Basically what BC and DC did here is drafting for the future… but we need new blood as soon as NOW, the fans are frustrated, and we have every good reason to be, after losing Chris Bosh, and having a terrible season we were hoping to at least be able to watch the Raps go hard this season. No one was thinking we can be really good but at fun to watch, I am sure Kemba could have brought this. The guy just carry UCONN all the way, and I couldn’t be happier if they paired him up with DD, who wanted him to be here. We need to keep our players happy, and if we think that DD wanted him here and he could help us, I will go for it all the way. But basically BC tells us, go screw yourself for a year or two and let’s then see if this kid is a beast or a bust… unfortunately, none of us is willing to sit still and watch the Raps been abused knowing we picked Jonas KNOWING we had names like Walker, Knight, Thompson and Burks on the board… If the strategy was to pick the BPA we probably did that, but he value right now is poor due to the buy-out and the fact we want our team to look competitive. Jonas might be a great player, but under circumstances we could have done better.

Raps are in a good position moving forward... what's to be frustrated about?

EggsToTheBBQ 06-24-2011 04:30 PM

I wasn't shocked.

When Cleveland picked Tristan I was like, OK, it's Jonas or Knight. I crossed my fingers and was like "Jonas Jonas Jonas Jonas Jonas Jonas Jonas"

Then, BAM! Jonas! YES! :dancing:

They are, but we could have picked up a player who can contribute right away. I am happy with the pick as long as we could add a PG. This is why I think Walker could have been a good fit here, for some leadership and scoring. Jonas is the big picture (3-5 yrs from now) while we have a need to get better now. If the team sucks DD is not going to re-sign.

i agree. i can bring up hundreds of quotes complaining about our lack of a centre and BC nets you one, a possibly great one. not many people were high on hibbert and look at what he turned out to be. you cant judge this early, let it sink in. hes 19! look at favours. he didnt produce much this year, yet people are saying he will be an all star in the near future. people want a rebuild, well relax, it takes time. right now, we took a player who fills a need and was the bpa. add another pick next year and as stated earlier, we are in a very good position.

He just listed the reasons. Disagree, don't disagree....but some feel this way. It's like this every single draft, not everyone is gonna be happy for various reasons, Instant gratification, thinking it's the wrong pick, disapointment in not getting the player they wanted, lack of name recognition.

dfunkie1 06-24-2011 04:34 PM

i think the real reason people are upset because they're shortsighted and made this draft about two players while completely ignoring the other holes we have on the roster.

there might not even be full season next year, so you also have to take into consideration that if a buy-out isn't reached for next year, he'll be playing for a full season unlike the guards we set our sights on.

also, consider this. next year we're going have jonas and another high pick joining our club. short term suffering for long term gain.

finstock 06-24-2011 04:37 PM

I know I'm shocked that a guy who was projected top 5 all year long actually went top 5.

rhetorical.

Yeah, I get the reasons, but I listed one major reason to not be frustrated. You got your tank, now bask in it.

Agreed. Would you guys rather have Kemba OR Val and Harrison Barnes? :D

First of all, if you want to put things in perspective, don't suggest we were all shocked. I wasn't. My reaction was - a real Lithuanian - nice. I was shocked at Cleveland's pick.

I would have been happy with Kemba if he was the BPA. I was resigned to that and hopeful. Before we dropped to 5, I really liked the prospect of landing one of the two European bigs or Irving, but then we dropped in the lottery instead of moving up or staying at 3. At that point the draft looked ripe for disappointment. At best I thought there would be a player we could hang some hopes on and see what happens. Now we got what I thought was out of reach, and that is a player that can really help to shape a team. It might take another frustrating year, but this team could make a really nice jump after that, with the right moves, and it's not all going to hang on how one guy performs, or doesn't, nor any gimmicks to get a team winning without fundamental pieces in place.

The one thing that i kind of like about this right now is that we have capspace. We have time to add a couple solid pieces to the lineup and improve, then you insert Valenciunas and possibly another high pick in a year and things start to take shape. Essentially, they know they have a Center going forward and start addressing other areas via FA/trade leading into him actually playing here. BC made a good point last night when asked why make this kind of pick now (refering to his short contract), he said he wasn't gonna worry about instant gratification and that this is part of a plan and he needs to look at the big picture. Which is something we often lose sight of, BC already knows his next 2-3 moves and knows how he wants to shape this team in the next two + years and this pick is only one move of quite a few to come.

I agree, but I am not putting my hopes too high when it comes to FA. How many quality FA we were able to land here in the last 5-7 years...? :sigh:

If there's a hard cap i wouldn't be so sure anymore. Fact is we have more flexibility then every top contending team out there, some of them will have to cut costs if anything. The players will go where the money is and we should be in a position to get a good player or two imo. I think a Hard cap changes things for us.

I sure hope so.... :confused2:

Personally, I don't often lose sight of the big picture and the idea of following a plan. I've been waiting to see one in place since TJ went down. I'm very happy to see a plan in place now.

And if Bayless could reach his full potential. One of the best young teams in the league.
