Real GM: Raptors plan to Give Turkoglu some rest

RealGM: Basketball Wiretap Archives: Raptors Plan To Give Turkoglu Rest

Quote:
The Raptors plan to rest Hedo Turkoglu during the preseason as he comes off a busy summer of basketball.

In addition to making it all the way to the NBA Finals with the Magic, Turkoglu played for the Turkish national team at the EuroBasket 2009 tournament in Poland.

Turkoglu disappointed in the tournament, prompting many to believe that he's either tired or hurt.

Toronto general manager Bryan Colangelo doesn't believe his new acquisition played poorly, but does think he might need some rest.

"International play has always been more of a team game, less individual, so statistics are less of an indication than what he actually contributed," Colangelo told the Toronto Sun. "I watched him play, and would say he effectively deferred to others on his team, as he was often the target of defensive schemes.

"Having said that," Colangelo added, "he did appear physically and emotionally tired when I saw him last week, which is understandable given his late June NBA final appearance and mid-July training for the Euro championship."

Colangelo said that Turkoglu will be given "some strategic rest" during the preseason.
I would feel a whole lot better if Hedo had of taken the summer off to rest.

Good. He needs to be ready to go Oct. 28th.

These players have to stop playing in europe all summer. I hope Jose has a really good healthy season and realizes that not playing in Europe is the main reason.

This is bullshit, Ya hedo, sign a 5 year 50 million deal, ya hedo we are partly depending on you to push this team to a new level, ya hedo go play pointless international ball, that is a yearly event, no going all the way to the finals and then going straight to international ball is fine, you know, we are paying you the big bucks, yet we are less important then playing for a country that most people dont even know where its located.

Now, if this guy is hurt, or plays a Calderon style season well, he is going to be getting some boos from my section, thats for sure

if you don't know where turkey is located, you need to check yourself.

a small country? you need to do some research dude.

3rd largest country in europe, with a population almost 3 times that of canada.

perhaps turkish people do, m5. and hedo is most definitely a turkish person. so just because you, in your mom's basement or wherever you live, don't care about it doesn't mean it isn't worthwhile. for fuck's sake, most people would consider it a positive thing that a guy has love for his homeland and volunteers his time to help them achieve success. i can think of at least 80 million people that care about turkish basketball. you think there is any chance that there are 80 million raps fans out there to counter that?

Fuck that trane, so what about calderon? Many people were shitting on him all year beucase his play was sub par beucase of injury sustained or agitated during international play last year. So how you can say that its a positive thing. there has been recent posts on here about how BC should ban players from playing international ball because of the risks.

A world championship that is held once a year is just stupid considering the number of NBA players that play in it. Once every 2-4 years would be acceptable.

I guess ur saying its cool that we are getting an over used Hedo that will be little use to use sitting on the bench because of injury or playing at a 70% level because he has basically played a year of straight ball on two different teams that depended heavily on him to preform and run the teams

Why is it that people seem to feel that they can't make a point without cursing?

i think he meant in population. Canada is the second largest land mass in the world, behind Russia and ahead of china and the USA.. but we are smaller in population than New York state and California at this point with only 33-35 million people. Some estimate Mexico City's population at around 30 million! so, we are not a huge nation in that sense....

it's not so black and white man. I'm sure the Raptors would prefer everyone of their players not have busy offseasons, but at the same time, i think the organization respects the player enough to let them make their own individual choices - ESPECIALLY with guys who clearly have a lot of national pride.

How would Hedo feel if right after signing his contract, his new team says, "OK i don't care how much you love your country, but you CAN'T play for the national team, end of story." That's wouldn't be a very good thing now would it?

Also, it's not like Hedo was coming off an injury or was injured (not that i know at least). Calderon was and that's why he didn't play. Can you see the difference?

What's wrong?

Canada- population (33M+)

Turkey- Population (74M+)

Land wise we're much bigger, but population wise it's not even close.

You make it sound like Hedo is crippled. He's just tired so relax.
