Rate BC's best moves

What were BC's best moves. I think we need some revisionist history here and a little perspective.

I voted the Hedo signing / trade just because it was such a well-schemed move in how he managed the salary cap system. It seemed so complicated, and seemed like such a stroke of genius giving us much more room to sign other players given what we thought was possible. Now we still don't know how Turkoglu will turn out and how many games we'll win, but the guy is f*cking good. he's definitely a baller.

The Anthony Parker was also arguably the best. Especially for a move that was so under the radar and how good Parker was (especially in those first 2 years with us).

Hump for Haffa

Signing Garbo

Trading Bonner and Eric Williams for Rasho

I think that BC's moves individually are all very good, especially the value he gets in return for usually nothing, but when you look at what it does record-wise it doesn't translate. That's the problem...1 winning season out of 3 isn't great. But I mean, he hasn't made any horrible moves besides JO. I think the problem is that we run on bad luck. We had the 1st overall pick in a shallow draft class, we had money to spend in a poor free-agent season, and BC didn't have much talent to work with when he came to Toronto. I think in retro-spect if BC had the 06/07 teams he might have thrown the 47 wins out of the window and pretended we had a sub-500 record and built accordingly...if you know what I mean. We got lucky in 06/07...we all know that.

Garbo was a fantastic scrap heap move.

I like the Amir and Belli trade fantastic role player signings.

Its evident BC has not made a smack down move like he did in Phoenix (Nash FA signing) but he tried to manage and he is just short of obtaining a superstar to be praised by everyone

The team we currently have is the deepest since he's been here and he's aquired alot of assets that will come in handy in the near future. His biggest test will be Bosh. If Bosh wants out, BC will likely get a S&T and what he gets back in return is what he'll essentially be judged by. His legacy will hinge on Bosh and what happens there.

INSIDER 11-27-2009 12:11 PM

i wish i could vote for more than just one.
they are all nice!

The MVP of West Hollywood 11-27-2009 12:12 PM

George for Bellinelli and Delfino for Amir both look great so far

Ill also throw a bone to the Anthony Parker signing. He was a great starting SG for us, great character... him, Garbo, and Rasho really turned the mentality of this team around

Coom Jiggy 11-27-2009 12:14 PM

The four way deal involved Devean George, so IMO the Belinelli move is connected.

Ya problably and I have to say I don't like sign and trades all the time. They are sometimes forced upon and you end up getting just fillers for money reasons. If Bosh leaves you have to lay the best player to Bargs and hope you can get someone he can work with (sorry barg haters he is our 2nd best player with most potential). If he stays (which i think its 55% stay 45% leave now) you have to acquire more talent and being up against the luxury tax will be hard.

BC is in a bad position now IMHO.

If Bosh wants out and it's a sign and trade BC will take his time and get the right move. You really think BC will get fillers for a signed Bosh?? BC is in the drivers seat here, he holds the most money Bosh can get and is one of the more connected GM's in the league. So unless Bosh wants to lose 30Mil, he's gonna want or need a S&T if he wants to get out with the most available money.

They were good moves, but the one I liked the most (even if it didn't work in the end) was trading for JO. That's the kind of moves you need to make if you want to win in this league.

That's what Boston did when they've traded green for allen (who was coming after surgeries on both ankles, and before they knew they can get garnett). That's what Orlando din when they shamelessly overpaid lewis (soon to make 21/yr ...) and traded their leader for an aging vince carter. That's what Phoenix did when they traded for Shaq and than traded him out.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. If you don't try it - it will never work ...

great post moremilk. i agree completely.

Sick, Wicked and Nasty! 11-27-2009 01:40 PM

Agreed. At the time I liked the gamble...and then he worked it for flexibility for this season...that's the hallmark of a good GM. Risk taker but quick to recover.

TORaptor4Ever 11-27-2009 01:47 PM

How about re-signing Bosh after his rookie contract?

Windex 11-27-2009 02:31 PM

George for Beli
AP
Amir trade

rest weren't great

+1

I voted for the Amir deal. He's been fantastic so far and we didn't give up anything substantial to get him. I'd probably vote for the Belinelli deal but it should be ineligible for votes since that must be more Larry Riley's fuck up than anything (honorable mention to Don Nelson).

The Hedo trade was magnificent in terms of providing financial flexibility but I'm not sure how I feel about Turkey-boy so far - will have to wait until he's healthy.

Gurk 11-27-2009 05:37 PM

For me it was a tie between 4 way deal and the Marco deal. I still wonder how BC pulled both of those. First one if we signed Hedo, we wouldn't have been able to sign anyone else and I remember everyone freaking out at RF cuz of that, then he pulled that out of his ass. Next one was sick because we traded an old player that is on the decline for a young up and coming player. Both great moves
