Cool Rasho Nesterovic retires

Quote:
If you looked up a defintion of “underrated NBA player” throughout the 2000s, you would probably see a picture of Shane Battier. But if you looked closely at that picture, you would see that Battier was holding a picture of Rasho Nesterovic. Rasho announced his retirement today, without fanfare — would you have expected anything else from him?

“I believe my basketball career has ended. It’s enough. I’ve had a 17-years-long professional basketball career. My latest injury has nothing to do with this decision. This was a personal decision. Basically I can’t function as I did in the past, anymore. If I can’t be at my 100 percent as a player, I would rather do something else at the fullest.”

One of my favorite Raptors. I liked him as a Spur as well.

pretty awesome?

You know you cheer for a crap team when a serviceable back up center is spoken of as "Awesome". don't get me wrong Fancy, I love the Rasho..... but honestly man.... Shaq is awesome, Duncan is awesome. Rasho... sets picks and hits the odd open 15 footer.

A role player can't be awesome? He was an awesome role player. There's nothing pradoxical or hyperbolic about that, and it deserves to be celebrated.

whatever man, I think he was as cool as it gets for a piner.... but I ain't giving him an "era".

And no, a role player cannot be awesome. And if you are inspired by awe by watching the late great Rasho Nesterovic do his thing, thats fine by me, it's just insane by me as well.

Tim Duncan certainly doesn't seem mentally unstable at all.

SJ old chap, you are hopelessly confused.

Rasho was the face of the NBA in his prime. He took no prisoners when he stepped on the court. He was not a man, he was an animal. With a head full of steam, you would be lucky to make it out alive versus the Rasho train.

When people look back on the All-Times greats to ever dawn an NBA jersey 30 years from now, some will talk about Jordan and Magic and Bird. Others will recognize the ferocious beast that Rasho Nesterovic really was.

Personally, I've already marked my calendar for when Rasho will finally be nominated to the place where he belongs; the Naismith, nay, the Nesterovic Basketball Hall of Fame.

Long live the king!

i said he was awesome. I never said he was a very good player. Pretty big difference.

Heck you said that you 'loved the Rasho'. So really you agree with me.

At this age, with no legs, he was Euroleage player of the month in February or January.
I thought he'd still play for a couple years.

Mehh, this is Toronto. The city that thought Tie Dummy was awesome. I liked Rasho but awesome he was not.

I love reading the posts here, how people get caught up with the semantics of words. Just cause someone says Rasho was awesome does not mean he was saying Rasho was awe inspiring. Was he a dominant center? Some times. Was he integral to the Spurs' championship when he was there? Yes. Did he always play his role well without upsetting others or team chemistry? Yes. Was he known as a joker and big locker room presence? Yes. Did he have a long career and was a contributor? Yes. Heck he even made Bargs look good when he was here. In my books, Rasho was awesome for what he brought. I wish him well.
