Exclamation Rasho & Ford Back In Starting Lineup ... Jose's Out

WOW ... talk about a shakeup.

Rasho Nesterovic and T.J. Ford are in and Andrea Bargnani and Jose Calderon are out for the struggling squad as it faces the Detroit Pistons at the Air Canada Centre.

The switch of Nesterovic for Bargnani is not a huge surprise given their play of late but changing point guards with only a dozen games left in the regular season is a big gamble and comes at the suggestion of the player being demoted.

After watching Ford struggle to find his way in a backup role, Calderon suggested – and coach Sam Mitchell agreed – that the move be made to kick-start Ford and, hopefully, the team as a whole.

Ford hasn't started a game since Dec. 12, a night when he suffered serious back and neck injuries after being clubbed to the floor by Atlanta's Al Horford.

The 25-year-old missed Toronto's next 24 games and also missed a couple of games with a strained abdominal muscle.

His play of late has been spotty, as he's found it difficult to adapt to a backup role. He's been dominating the ball on offence, trying to force himself on the game instead of simply running the offence.

Calderon, a restricted free agent at the end of the season, met with Mitchell and president Bryan Colangelo on Tuesday to discuss the switch. He sees the same things the coaches, teammates and fans do – that Ford is uncomfortable with the second unit and the team's play in deteriorating.

BTW, kudos to Jose for suggesting such a move too. Talk about a team player.

Wow, I admire Jose, but now I just love him. I was ready to flame Sam, but if it really was joses idea then lets see what happends.
I think its a good move because Sam is not demoting Calde and Tj is given another chance. Wich he probably deserves but he has to be concious that it is probalby his last.

And again, what an impressive and repectful move by Calde

what a classy guy. Hopefully Bargs will put up good numbers in the second unit, which looks quite promising right now.

Yup, I wonder how guilty Ford is feeling now too?

I'm kind of scared about tonight's outcome because if Ford doesn't do a reasonable job then Raptor Nation is going to lose it.

yeah, and im curious to something. Does this imply that ford will play more minutes than Jose, or just that Ford will be on the court with the starters and Jose with the backups...

not a chance Ford plays more than Calde today IMO. Losing the starting role and minutes? I see somethin like Calde 26, ford 22. It will all depend of how well they play.

this just got me excited for tonight's game, because i wasn't really enticed to watch a beating by the bad boys. Plus, Primo "She wants a hood ni99a" Brezrc will be looking for blood against the team that traded him lol.

Jose's been torched everytime hes played DET, so its good timing. At least Ford doesnt allow those unexpected Billups drives where no one sees it coming and he gets layups or FT's.

Joses the man for doing this, itll help our chemistry with both units. Still not so sure I like Bargs going back to the bench though, hes sucked this year in that role.

I love the move by Jose.

However, the more I think about it, the more I realize that these two aren't gonna be on the same team possibly as soon as the end of this season and surely the next. Something is gonna give. And honestly, even IF TJ does play well, the hate will be there. This I guarantee.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Good move for the team i think, nice gesture from Jose. Not sure about the Andrea thing... Rasho's the better, steadier player but you can always swap them if Andrea is sucking...oh well. This is TJ's chance...no more excuses.. and this is also JOse's chance..other than statswise he's not exactly played stellar ball since Tj's return. I think it'll be good for him to go up against 2nd units and not have to rely on Bosh always being there to pick and roll with...i think he could get some things done with guys like Andrea and Kapono. I guess we'll see.

your love for TJ is blinding you, TJ's defense has been atrocious lately. Maybe if he starts, all this will change, I guess will see tonight.
