Exclamation RaptorsForum Year in Review (MARCH NOW AVAILABLE) Updated! See P.3

On December 3rd 2007, a small chunk of Raptor faithful began searching for a new home. No longer could they be debased and ridiculed by others, promised fan memorabilia or be told they’re speaking to Baron Davis, Josh Smith or Amare Stoudemire. No, a new home was found, one where basketball would be discussed. TJ v. Calderon, Keep or Fire Sam, Is Bargnani a bust and is the Jermaine O’Neal trade a bust, would all rule the day. Raptors forum would provide the opportunity to discuss all these topics and many more; but this was not a smooth transition, it was filled with many ups and downs but most importantly great times.

This is the year in review.

December 2007 was a turbulent month. I personally was searching for a new place to post my thoughts. My former home, EBSports just couldn’t cut it anymore and little did I know that I would receive the greatest birthday present a man in his early 20s and working out of an office can get, finding Raptorsforum. Familiar faces immediately joined: Benzo, AcieEarl40, -LX-, Coltrane, INSIDER, HoopsNation, Belsius, ClingRap, Superjudge, Fancylad and a few others became members who joined a new forum which included stalwarts, Sick Wicked and Nasty and raptors123. New members such as Aar_Canada and Tommytwotymes joined the collective adding new and different views on the team and the game.

The first month saw a slew of introductory posts, wondering:

“Why were we doing this”

and just introducing ourselves to the founders of this place. It was barebones, simple, very few emoticons and no signatures. Some would say boring. We saw it as a chance to make it our own.

The first game thread was Charlotte vs. Toronto (a game Toronto won) and had a total post count of 57, a tiny number compared to other sites or what would eventually follow. Thriller’s dislike of Hump and the idiocy of the free pizza promotion (which is still stupid) were discussed and debated. Well, not so much debated rather largely agreed upon by all. We followed that up with a thread which has dominated Raptor message boards since January 2006; that was: Jose Vs T.J-"One Thread to unite them all". Key quotes such as these were found:

“We could start with a Benzo poll on who is better, you can only vote if you have watched 80% of the games” - Belsius

“I love Jose, seriously, I’d let him touch it” - Tommy

“Forderon is the key” - Fancy

“Face it lads, Ford’s staying and Jose’s most likely going” - Doc

A true mixture of mockery, clever thoughts and insightful banter was slowly emerging (all trademarks of Raptorsforum). December also saw the birth of the Andrea Bargnani controversy. To be a bust or not to be a bust, that was the question. Mr. Doug Smith began discussing issue and let’s thank Doc for posting the article. Doug wrote:

Quote:

The kid’s skilled, no doubt about it, and that’s why there’s the hype. He’s got a picture-perfect jump shot, is learning (slowly) to operate in the post but his defence is indeed spotty. Not bad guarding bigs, a terrible help defender. And until he gets it on a consistent basis, hype is all it’s going to be.

The seed was planted and it wouldn’t be until much longer that the effects of this discussion would be fully realized in the RF world. Brothers would turn again brothers, mothers against sons, cats against dogs, Canadians against Canadian Italians, SWAN vs. raptors123. It would become a truly ugly scene.

Thriller began his descent into insanity by advocating starting Maceo Baston against Boston (a game we ended up losting 112-84). This loss was quickly followed up with a win against Houston (a total of 37 posts) where additional discussion regarding TJ v. Jose would be found. Thriller attended the game and believed the Raptor girls were ten times hotter in person and Malaysans (his word that he used, not certain if it’s a real word) were the crème de la crème. Also, in this thread we saw the birth of Torontosaurus. The big game, from an RF perspective, and even grudge match amongst fans, was the game against the Dallas Mavericks, which thankfully we won. Thankfully, the Raptorsforum world was introduced to Superjudge’s brand of confidence in his continuous proclamations that he is always right. Then possibly, the lowest point in RF for the month of December, a game thread against the then division leading Boston Celtics, we had a total post count of 18. The Bargnani questioning began in earnestness: “Did Bargnani reach his ceiling this quickly?” and “Can Smitch light a fire under the arse of Bargnani?” Hilariously, Doc finally snapped at the end of the month proclaiming:

“..... Andrea Bargnani is fuckin' useless with this team. I don't snap too often with this team or particular players but I have no patience for someone so lost and out of sync. All he has is a shot and one that right now couldn't hit the broad side of a barn if he tried.

Can't box out worth a lick let alone rebound ..... can't even keep up to a average players like Wilcox, Thomas or Collison ...... and doesn't have a clue what to do with the rock when passed too when he's not beyond the arc. Totally and utterly useless.”

// *end of rant* -Doc

Other significant moments of December were Michael Vick was sentenced to prison for 23 months and Benzo got rid of his Piece of Shit Xbox. It ended up being a slow news month. On came January 2008 and RF would begin its steady climb to Raptor talk superiority. (insert evil laugh)

This brings us to the end of the month. As you can tell, the month and birth of December was an eventful one. But we were only beginning the year and many more moments would occur. In the following months, witness the betrayal of Doc by fancylad, the birth of Gurkang, the return of TORaptor, the continuous mocking of Kuzzy and the man simply known as Pimpery. January, February and March can be found tomorrow.

Yeah, I don't think he's Asian either.

He's just ugly.

Outstanding work. You've really outdone yourself!
