I hate these gimicks, but oh well? Take a look at the Classics 6 game mini pack in the link in the mini pack section:

TORONTO RAPTORS

I feel like I've heard about this before

didn't the Raps were Huskies jerseys when they were playing the Knicks to celebrate 50 years of NBA or something like that?

Yeah, I think it was the start of the 96-97 season. I like the idea. I think the listed the dates that they were going to wear the jersey too. I can't remember where I saw it though.

I think so. I hate this stuff though. Seriously none of the players have a clue what the Huskies are and most fans (especially the casual ones) are probably at the game thinking....what the fuck are they wearing? I can see wearing the old purple Raptors throw backs, but this team has never been the Huskies, they're the Raptors.

Really? I'm just not a fan of the name at all. If there were never a Huskies team and in 1994 when people were trying to come up with names for the new Toronto franchise and the TORONTO HUSKIES was the name, most would have said WTF? Then again many said that about the Raptors.

Well then... consider this a good way for the franchise to enlighten the less knowledgable fans about a part of Toronto baketball history that's not that well known..

Even though it wasn't that memorable a run, it's cool to know that basketball had a place in this city all those years ago.

They're going to give people a Huskies retro meshback hat? That doesn't seem all that sexy to me. I'm thinking this is a marketing effort directed at the golden agers with some investments in gold to boot.

They should have named the team Huskies to begin with - a great Canadian NBA name with a great Canadian heritage.

I like the idea of the retro jersey, but the purple raps one would be much better suited then a jersey that never was

dude. It WAS.

1946.

It's a great acknowledgement of the basketball history of this city.

Right on fancy. I'd even go so far as to say that the Huskies throwback is the most significant throwback jersey any NBA team could rock. The Huskies were a part of the first ever NBA game. How many teams can make that claim?

I can't get too excited about the Huskies stuff. After all the team only lasted one season. The significance of it's "history" is a bit dubious don't you think?
The jerseys they used before were nice though, even though it's just a gimmick along the lines of the "wackness" green St. Patty's Day jerseys.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it dubious.

In terms of its significance to the sporting culture of the city, yeah it's pretty small and insignificant. Still though, it's something. and it's a pretty cool claim to say that our city and team hosted the first ever NBA game.

I'll say the green jerseys were "interesting". They looked cool (but a little too Celticsy - and words can't explain how much i hate the Celtics). Bad association for me right there.

I totally loved the Spanish and italian themed jerseys the team wore in the Europe training camp. Why i never picked up a Calderon one when it was on sale is beyond me.

Definitely cool that the first ever NBA game was on Canadian soil, no doubt. It would just mean alot more if the team had survived.
Yeah, I "got" the reasons behind the Spanish and Italian themed jerseys. They were over-there for camp after all. They were kinda cool.
Despite Mango's affinity for the green ones, it was Bosh himself who referred to them as "wackness". I'm guessing he looked in the mirror with it on and was frightened by what he briefly thought was KG staring back at him.
What the hell is with the black and gold ones on sale at the ACC though? They've never actually worn those have they? Just terrible and they make no sense.

I think the Raptors should have an annual JAMES NAISMITH memorial game to honor the great canadian who invented the game of basketball. So hopefully the raps consider this and make it happen, because its only natural given toronto is the only canadian team and they honor the canadian legend mr naismith
