Default Raptors Unlikely to Sign Delfino

Sorry if this was already posted, but I didn't see it.

Quote:
Toronto Raptors
FREE AGENCY: Raptors unlikely to sign Delfino
Toronto president Bryan Colangelo told The Globe and Mail Thursday that it's unlikely the Raptors will re-sign Carlos Delfino after trading for shooting guard Marco Belinelli.

"The likelihood that he's going to sign here is less," Colangelo said of Delfino. "Not only is he going to be leaving some money on the table in Europe, but one of the things that was attractive about coming here was that he'd have ample opportunity to play and maybe start and that doesn't appear to be as open now."

Colangelo did tell the newspaper there is the possibility of using Delfino in a sign-and-trade.
It would be great if BC could find something in return for a sign and trade of Delfino...although I would say it's unlikely because he's been offered so much to stay in Russia and there don't seem to be any other teams interested in his services.

That means Bellini is likely to start.

I like Delfino, but after yesterday's move I think it's best we don't bring him over. I don't want to see another logjam preventing good players from getting good minutes. I think Pops to back up the 3/4 would be a good last signing at this point.

My guess is that the money that we sent to Golden State in the Bellineli deal was justified by knowing that we're saving 5 million from not signing Delfino. Not sure if we sent the whole 1.6 million of George's salary but even if we did there's a net savings of 3.4 million and we acquired a young talent in the process...Not a bad deal at all.

The fact that Delfino is probably not coming back, and i'm ok (almost happy about it), shows were this team is right now.

Feeling like this about the Raptors is fun.

Yet very strange and foreign at the exact same time...

I wouldn't have minded to see an S&T with Delfino for a backup power forward but at this point I think I'm happy with our depth in the post. If anything BC could always sign a 3rd PF for the minimum. I don't think we need anymore than that.

Who knows but that means squat, considering alot of FA remain and alot of them will have trouble getting jobs especially for the $$ they want. I would love Kleiza and even though he's restricted who's offering him much money. Not many teams have money so the interest is low for everyone especially as the smmer goes along. I was listening to the game plan yesterday and some guy from CBS sports said that the Raptors have a long list of players they believe will fall through the cracks and they could get for the minimum.

i guess if we can get Belinelli for George, anything is possible ... let's hope that something can happen as his career won't happen in this town at this point...

i see, so at this point, there are no teams other than the Raptors even looking at him as a possible bench guy... and he wants 5 million a year?? geesh... he needs to get his head out of his ass... one good season does not translate into that kind of money... well i guess it did for marcus banks... maybe we can do a sign and trade for the Rockets cheerleaders for banks and delfino...

I don't know if we can really gauge delfino's interest from other teams as being a bench mark can we?

Seeing how the Raptors own his rights, how would anyone sign him? Especially if we are (as we were at the time) interested.

Good choice. There is no need for Delfino now that we have Belli. Delfino is going to ask for 4 mil and we are paying Belli only 1 mil, also if we get Delfino, we won't have too much minutes for him. Overall I just don't see a ned for him here. I think the best possible thing to do is sign and trade him if some team wants him

Good riddance! Fucc eyeliner wearin' Delfino!

As for a possible sign and trade...

A double sign and trade involving tha Raps and Nuggets.

Delfino for Klieza

Both players if signed are expected to make roughly the same amount this year ($4-5 mil)

Denver lost Dahntay Jones(SG) and Anthony Carter(PG) is a free agent so they could use a versatile player like Delfino who can play both positions.

Toronto could use a player like Kleiza, he's got a decent 3 pt%(.342 career), is a slasher type player who can take it to the hole and can backup Hedo at SF or if needed play some 2 guard. Also Kleiza is known to be somewhat of tough player.

Toronto's lacking in 3pt shooting with the loss of Kapono and Parker-Kleinas could fill in, although he is a bit streaky...but who isn't? Denver lost a decent 3pt shooter and defensive minded player in Jones and so Delfino could fill in that role nicely.

Also to make the deal sweeter for the Nuggets the Raptors could offer them anyone of Douby, O'bryant, Ukic-take your pick (Granted salary cap rules allows the Nuggets to take an extra player).

This trade would satisfy both the needs of the Raptors and Nuggets.

Finally, will sanity prevail?
No room for Delfino, thank the Bball gods, but I will trust BC's judgement.
We can all speculate about the rotation/depth, but as the coach says, DD starts and gets his chance to develop on the court against "live" bullets.
All the other chips will fall where they may.
