Raptors TV To Go HD

Toronto Raptors Network will now have to convince cable and satellite companies to carry the enhanced signal as part of their service, which can be an issue because of the amount of limited bandwidth HD channels suck up.

However, one industry source not affiliated with Toronto Raptors Network said that "as a Canadian HD channel with an established brand, Raptors HD will do very well."

You mean they will go 1080 full HD? That would be nice.

The Score HD launch party was on lat night.

Cabbie is awful. He interviewed O'Neal and it was quite painful.

Parker was there with Magloire talking about NCAA coverage.

Then some motorcross guy spun out doing a trick and smashed the back end of the bike into Cabbie.

I watched RapsTV HD last season, and the games were in 720i format, with some non-HD content slipping in and looking screwy.

So, the channel was HD. I think they either meant all content being shot with HD cameras (either 720 or 1080) or bringing the resolution of the signal up to 1080 (won't do any good if the original content is still fucking NTSC).

I don't think actual television programs will go 1080 anytime soon. We're stuck on 720i for awhile still. Blu-rays are the only things that can get you 1080 these days.

I prefer sound quality that comes with the signal.

Eyes cant process 1080 over 720 but ears can notice the difference in the sound that accompanies it.

Do you even know what you are talking about?

1. On a screen big enough, you can see individual pixels even in 1080.
2. The signal gets stretched to fill your HDTV screen. If the native vertical resolution of that screen is 1080, then it will use 1080 or you will have black bars at the top and at the bottom.

there is no 1080p on television, here or in the states, on any channel. What we get is 1080i, which is a minor step over 720p and both are in a different class than SD. I think All Raptor games last season were HD, including those on the Raptors TV. What this news means is probably that they will be full HD, which would be cool. I wonder if they could broadcast those old classics with MJ in HD, probably not ...

actually, that's not true - the eyes can see much more than 1080, much much more. The differences get smaller and smaller as you move up, however the bigger the screen, the more important the resolution. Apparently on a 70"+ plasma 720p doesn't look all that great. Not sure if it's true though.

Frankly, for games, the image is much more important than the sound, it allows you to pick up many more details.

you guys need to understand between the p and the i in this whole HD business.

TVs smaller than 40 inches wont be able to produce the difference between 1080p and 1080i. 1080i is basically 720p, but boosted to a higher resolution. the source is 720p, but your digital box and your tv try to produce a higher quality picture.

no digital cable in the world produces 1080p (yet), the best is 1080i, which is 720p.

only 1080p content is bluray, hdDVD, 360 and ps3. and some 360 and ps3 games arent even 1080p, but 1080i, which is 720p.

bluray and hddvds are 1080p, which is the best you can get right now.

so to complete my point, if you are buying a tv, and its 42inches or smaller, dont bother buying a "full HD" 1080p, cause the pixels are too small, you wont be able to tell the difference.

but as mentioned above, especially above 50 inches, 1080p makes a big difference, however your distance from the TV is also a very key point, cause if you have a huge TV, and you dont sit very far from it, your picture quality will be shit, cause the pixels on the TV are too big, and too close. a mistake that a good friend of mine did.

and dont ever pay for those monter HDMI cables, monoprice.com

lol at the last part ... I once bought a 15ft hdmi cable on ebay for 99 cents (+ $10 for shipping ...). At the time, at FutureShop, the same cable (same length, but Monster) was something like $200 ...

but I disagree on the 1080p vs 1080i, it definitely pays to get 1080p. My 1080i TV has a 1024x768 resolution (with rectangular pixels), 1080p have 1920x1080, which is almost 3 times as many pixels.

Still, unless you watch it from very close, or have really really good eyes, the difference is fairly minor. Where I can see a huge difference though, is when I hook up my computer. The text looks very blurry and is basically impossible to read from a distance, on a 1080p we had at work once, the text was very crisp and a joy to watch.

Monster cables are expensive but there are good.

I only use component video and I use fiber optic for sound.

Component cable 3 ft-$200

Fiber Optic cable 3 ft-$100
