Raptors tried frantically to aquire Antetokounmpo on draft night

Could you imagine the talent on this team with Lowry, Derozan, Ross, Antetokounmpo, Valanciunas, Amir?

Quote:
The Toronto Raptors "tried frantically" to acquire a top-15 pick in last June's draft in order to select Giannis Antetokounmpo.

John Hammond had decided 72 hours before the draft that the Milwaukee Bucks would select Antetokounmpo if he fell to them at No. 15.

Many NBA executives believed that Antetokounmpo received a promise from the Atlanta Hawks with the 17th overall pick.

I hope Lowry re-signs so I don't have to read about how we missed out on this guy due to Colangelo trading away our pick!

If we could have pulled off getting Giannis Antetokounmpo I would have been so fucking happy. The guy has so much potential and seems like a kid with a good head on his shoulders.

Meh... a top ten protected 2014 pick would have done it easily. If he really wanted it that badly he could have made the trade. The quesiton is would we have wanted to. If we were picking at 15 this year, would we trade it?

We don't know that. GMs may have been reluctant to deal a future pick, especially with their jobs on the line.

Then we still wouldn't have known how good Ross is, probably...

Hell, we may have had to trade him to acquire Giannis???

I would trade Ross for Giannis straight up. I would consider trading Derozan for him and I'm a big Derozan fan.

Right now I'd trade DD before Ross.

Wow. What has he shown you that gives you that much confidence in him???

Mbah A Moute had quite some hype surrounding him during his rookie season (like elite wing defender kinda hype) but he'll be lucky to even be on an NBA roster next season.

Not necessarily saying Luc is on Giannis level talentwise, that would be foolish, just saying be careful what you wish for...

No question. He's small forward size, Ross could slide to SG. Giannis plays with a chip on his shoulder, he's got way more grit than DD and more potential upside.

Doubt that the Bucks would say yes.

I am getting so tired about hearing about this guy.

Yes, it's a cute story, but have any of you watched the Bucks this year? He doesn't know how to play basketball. He's averaging bad to mediocre numbers on a horrifically bad team. He has no skills to speak of.

I'm aware of his potential and all that but when was the last time a player with hyper-athletic ability but completely lacking in fundamental skills actually became a huge NBA force? Look at JaVale McGee; literally one of the most freak athletes the world has ever seen and he plays like that. And some of y'all want to trade DeRozan for a guy who can't play and more than likely never will.

Let this young man develop and we'll see - but until then, no more features.

Actually it's his fundamentals and instinct that has surprised me more than anything. His instinct for the game matches his athleticism. I also havn't seen a lot of Bucks games, and I'm confident hes had some stinkers. But from what I've seen, for a 19 year old he has a high bball IQ; he's going to be a scary player.

Of course, Derozan has had a few off games. What way will the wind be blowing next week.

It's not about the last few games at all. Ross is on a better contract, is better defensively, is better at this point in his developemnt than DD was in his second year and we'd have a true SG/SF combo that can stretch the floor. All that and we could get a lot more for DD so to me it's almost a no brainer. Imagine having that kind of talent at the SG/SF position on rookie deals? It would allow us to possibly go after a big name PF.

By the time Ross becomes as good as Derozan, if that happens, he will no longer be on a rookie deal. It's riskier trading Derozan because Derozan is at a level that might not be matched by Ross and Giannis. There is a risk there. Pairing Giannis with Derozan isn't taking on more risk. You're trading one inconsistent sophmore for another inconsistent freshman.

Mbah a Moute was 2.5 years old and 2 inches shorter. And from what I remember, any hype surrounding him was based exclusively on defense.
