Raptors are suing the Spanish Basketball Federation

Damn you Belsius and rapsfan087 .... why is your country being so damn stubborn and not paying our franchise the insurance on Garbo? :frustrated:

Does anyone think this issue might leave a bad taste in Garbo's mouth now that there will forever be some friction between the Raptors and the Spanish Basketball Federation? :confused2:

The Raptors filed a statement of claim on Friday against the Spanish Basketball Federation.

''It is unfortunate that we've reached this point,'' Raptors officials said in a statement. ''The matter is now before the courts. Therefore we will respect the court process and not comment further while the matter is ongoing.''

The Raptors forward injured his left leg and ankle in a gruesome crash last March that ended his rookie season.

He returned to play for Spain in last summer's world championships against Toronto's wishes. The Raptors finally gave Garbajosa the green light after the Spanish federation took out a US$1-million insurance policy.

Garbajosa averaged 8.5 points and 4.9 rebounds in his rookie season before snapping his tibia and dislocating his ankle in a crash in Boston last spring. He underwent surgery immediately after.

He played the first seven games of this season, but was placed on injured reserve after an MRI on his leg in November showed something abnormal.

Garbajosa had surgery in Baltimore in December on his left leg in a procedure to strengthen his leg.

ummmm, they probably deserve it. I hope the federation gets the insurance company to pay them the money. It would be hillarious, I dont like the president of the federation at all.

I hate to say this but the Raptors should just pay, aren't they richer? Lol

Why would the raptors pay it, when they're the ones getting screwed by this? Also, the Raptors ARE paying Garbo his salary during all of this. you realize that, no?

anyways, this may be a dumb question (open to the floor), but what does $1 million insurance policy mean? Does that mean that the raps only get $1million back from Spain? i have no idea and i'm not familiar with this aspect of legal/insurance terminology.

So it seems the litigation is with the spanish insurance company.

Quote:

Chus Bueno, Executive Director of the "FEB"(Spanish Federation), afirmed to MARCA.com that "we have read the article(Toronto Sun Article), but we havent recieved any oficial notification, so its difficult to analize. The FEB paid Garbajosas insurance, we wont make anymore statements". But they admit "there have been faxes sent between both parties(insurance company and the Raptors) to agree if there has to be a payment and what quantity it would have to be, but I supose its normal in this kind of situations. This is something between them", he sentenced.

In this other article it says the Raptors are demanding one forth of Garbajosas salary in one year, one million dollars.

It's ridiculous. I just don't know how the fucking company doesn't pay: this isn't going to be good for them, I mean, they wanted to enter into the sport insurances business, now no teams are going to want any insurance from that company IMO.

rapsfan087 03-15-2008 10:10 AM

And they'd have to pay the fucking whole year contract.
