Raptors still looking to move Jose

Quote:
As his Spanish national team readies for the coming world championship in Turkey, Calderon granted an interview in his native language, basically saying that he’d like to know where he’ll be playing next season.

And the sooner, the better.

“My future will be known when Toronto and my agents make a decision,’’ Calderon said.

“They are working daily for the best solution for me and the franchise. Now, there isn’t anything new to say.”

As the calendar flips to August, the NBA finds itself in a slow time following the dizzying events of the past month.

No doubt the Raptors want to find closure on the Calderon issue, but finding a partner is at the crux of the matter.

If Calderon somehow comes back, he’ll be the highest-paid player on the Raptors, which is all one needs to know on how much the club overpaid.

The word on Calderon is out, a defensively challenged point guard who is best suited in a system where he’s able to play off the ball in a half-court set and take advantage of his shooting.

He’d be perfect in Orlando because of the Magic’s penchant for heaving three-balls, where he’d also be protected defensively playing with Dwight Howard.

With the Magic picking up Chris Duhon, the team has a guy who can spell for Jameer Nelson, but Calderon is a much better shooter and better ball handler than Duhon.

At the same time, Duhon won’t be making anywhere near the $9 million US Calderon will earn next season on a deal that increases to $9.7 in 2011 and $10.5 million in 2012.

I think either Jose or JJ need to go not that either is a terrible player but with addition of Barbosa there is a problem with minutes.

I like Jose if healthy he is one of the top 5 PGs in the East.
We trash him but Cleveland, Detroit, Indy, NYK, Orlando, Miami, Charlotte, Philly starters are worse.
Chicago, Boston, Washington ( if Wall lives upto expectations ) are better.
NJ is about equal.

Again JJ would fit int that class as well but a healthy Jose is better than JJ.

No there isn't:

Jack/Jose
DD/Barbosa
Kleiza/Weems
Amir/Davis
Bargs/Anderson

Minimal minutes- Beli, Banks, Dorsey, Alabi, Evans

I agree with your assessment .... Healthy Jose > JJ. I would rather see Jose go given we already had him almost traded and JJ costs us less.
It would benefit Jose to get a clean start.
In the end we need a stud PG and neither Jose or JJ meet this requirement. Either a high draft next year or some amazing trade with our TPE may bring a PG that we need.

That is one ugly line-up.. ugly.. Bargs is the only true starter and even some people would question that.

Yeah well, i'd rather have our lineup then Clevelands. Apparently they're gonna have Graham and Moon starting.

Plus i don't think that'll be our lineup. I still say Jose will be dealt along with Evans or Banks, our TPE will be used (to some degree) and we'll have a Center, moving Bargnani to PF, and either another SF or PG.

This is BC's fault for giving Calderon a contract that pays him 10mill a season. He's not worth it and therefore is tough to move.

hahaha, yeah that's pretty bad. Let's hope that Kleiza and Barbosa can man up and really make a difference on this team. I hope to god Colangelo has SOMETHING up his sleeve for a serviceable player.

Nobody batted an eye lash when the deal was done. And he doesn't make 10Mil until the final year (last two season if you count 9.7Mil in 2011-12).

I remember distinctly coming on here over 2yrs ago and most here thought he was easily a top 10 PG and nobody complained about his contract.

I agree, I was all for signing Jose a couple of years ago and thought he was worth the contract. Ever since then, it has been a steep down hill though.

Like Calderon has said, he usually plays his best after a summer when he plays for the national team. Why trade him now when his value is at an all-time low. Start the season with him, he should get off to a really good start and than look around at possible deals from a position of strength. With guys like Amir and our other quick young guns, Calderon would at least make sure we get the most out of them offensively. He's a pretty crafty passer and would make everyone else he's on with gel offensively. We should have a more defensive oriented platform this year so defensively he might be o.k. His defensive IQ is actually pretty good, he's quite adept at filling lanes picking off passes and stealing the ball. His problem is straight one on one defence with the opposing point guard where he just doesn't have the lateral quickness to keep up to the good point guards

Agree with 4 Rose, Jennings, Rondo & Wall.

Stuckley if gifted offensively APG pathetic and Turnover ratio terrible (NO)
Harris as said think about equal....remember he was scorer on a very bad team
Both JJ & Jose are better than Nelson
