Raptors standing pat

No real surprise here but at least something new.

The Raptors will be men of action, not audition, when training camp opens in Ottawa two weeks from today.

At this stage, they don't plan on inviting anyone other than the 13 players currently under guaranteed contract, allowing them to move smoothly into dress rehearsals for their 13th NBA season.

"We can work right away on our main structure," senior vice-president of basketball operations Maurizio Gherardini said yesterday. "We can try and put in things that actually help our team game, work on similar concepts, offence, defence and use the pre-season games as a test, not as a way to try out new players."

And this was an interesting tidbit to me...

Gherardini didn't want to delve too far into the debate on whether the seven-foot Bargnani will bump Jamario Moon from the starting small forward spot.

"That's what the exhibition games in October are for," he said. "Coaches enjoy this time of year because it's a period of teaching and experiments. Before you know it, October has flown by and you're into the regular season."

"[Jermaine] is as hungry as can be and he's going to have quite an impact on this team.
O'Neal is the new Garnett
And hes going to get the ring
And help Raps on the way

On the second thought, its discouraging that they don't know the lineup. If coach doesn't know, who does? Hope it is not another season when the starting five is changing still in playoffs :(

If the coaches were to come out and reveal the starting lineup before the season even started, I think it would prevent guys from working as hard to crack the starting five. That's just my guess though.

i actually like the fact that they are tinkering with the lineup and are going to be trying out Bargs at the 3.
the guy needs something to spark him and maybe him starting at the 3 is exactly what he needs.
i remember when we drafted him, alot of people said he'd play SF, but it never materialized.
we know he isnt tough enough to bang at C, and the PF spot is not going to get him alot of burn, so him playing SF may work out for everyone.
look at HEdo, he's 6'10 and he plays SF on most occasions... look at his breakout season last year.... maybe this will happen for Bargs.

Look at Hedo past his height. Hedo (and Peja, 6'10) can dribble, he can drive, he can create his shot. (How come every player best highlights seem to be against Raptors?)

It isn't all about Andrea, other players need respect too.

True that revealing all your plans is stupid, and it would make all ok. If not for the example of last season.

they have a pretty good idea, rest assured ... but I think it's in their best interest right now to take this stance, because neither moon or kapono have a complete case to be the starter. In the end, I think they both will start at various times during the season, depending on matchups and injuries.
