Default Raptors sign Quincy Douby through next season

The Toronto Raptors announced Monday they have signed guard Quincy Douby for the remainder of this season and the 2009-10 season. Per team policy, financial details were not disclosed. The Raptors signed the free agent to consecutive 10-day contracts March 24 and April 2.

Douby has appeared in six games for Toronto, averaging 5.2 points and 1.7 assists in 10.7 minutes. He has averaged 8.0 points, 2.0 assists and 14.0 minutes in the past three games, shooting .667 (10-15) from the field and three-point range (4-6) during that span.

Douby, 6-foot-3, 175 pounds, averaged 18.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 28.6 minutes in five games with the D-League’s Erie BayHawks this season. He scored in double figures in all five games, with a high of 23 points at Albuquerque.

Douby, 24, was the 19th selection as an early entry candidate by the Sacramento Kings in the 2006 NBA Draft. He averaged 4.1 points, 1.0 rebounds and 10.7 minutes in 116 career games with the Kings. He posted a career-high 32 points at the Los Angeles Lakers on April 15, 2008. He was released by Sacramento on January 21.

Douby averaged 17.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 95 career games at Rutgers University. He finished his career ranked sixth in school history in scoring (1,690) and holds the school record for points scored in a single season (839 in 2005-06). He averaged 25.4 points as a junior, leading the Big East in scoring and finishing sixth nationally. He earned first-team All-Big East honours in his junior season.

I like Douby as a player, but what I like even more is that this is going to put pressure on Roko to develop his game in the summer. If Roko doesn't come back as a better player, ready to eat up all of the backup point guard minutes, his competitive drive will definitely be in question.

they probably got him at like the league minimum so in that case this is a good signing financially, kind of like a moon salary

nice, i havent seen his pay much except for yesterdays game, but it looks like he could be a solid backup. hes quick, his shooting is pretty good, and he can handle the ball. Besides his NBA play, he is like a d league superstar as well as a college superstar. I like what i have seen thus far. I guess we will have to see how he develops in the off season and how he comes back next year. good luck doubs

I knew he would be back.

He is a good defender and he can score the rock as well. Zach I agree with your point that Douby could possibly cut into Roko's minutes especially if he play's like he does now

well, if roko does not show some improvemnt next year (especially in his jump shots) then im glad we have someone who can run the point and actually take/hit shots

i agree, and I believe that's why this deal was made...I think it's save to say Banks is gone as well?

Exactly. I think Roko has more room for growth than Douby ever will but if Roko doesn't start putting time into developing his jumper as well as his left hand, his potential isn't going to count for much.

Bingo. I agree completely. Smart move by BC in getting some cheap insurance so we don't get burned the way we did this season at our PG spot.

Yeah, i can't see Jose/Ukic/Douby/Banks at PG, add to that the possibility AP stays as well and could also play the point. I can't see us carrying that many PG's. Banks is the odd man out, probably will be bought out.

I definitely like him better than Solomon. Here's yet another guy who could have made a difference had he been on the roster from the start.

Yep.

And I hope this puts pressure on Jose as well as Roko. Any thinking within the organization that Jose is the lock as the starting pg isn't a good thing. He's not good enough to be a lock, he has to earn it, and hopefully their is some healthy competition at that spot in training camp next year that will make him earn it, or lose it.

he's only guaranteed till training camp I think - it's a smart move since it doesn't cost us much if anything.
