Pietrus is a good player, not the answer long term but he should help a little. If anything hopefully it gives the other players a spark/kick in the pants. Who knows.

LOL waive our starting SF and pickup a guy who no one wanted to now start at SF. Man we suck.

Hopefully Pietrus is healthy and in shape, because if he is at least he can play some D and take open 3s, which should open up the floor a bit for Lowry and Derozan. I wont hold my breath though.

jeffb 11-29-2012 07:10 PM

Lowry/Calderon
Derozan/Ross
Pietrus/Kleiza
Bargs/Davis
Val/Amir

Looks better to me. lol

Anything is better than McGuire starting. Should be interesting to see what happens when Fields and Anderson come back. lol

jeffb 11-29-2012 07:12 PM

You know what the funny thing is, the 8th seed in the East currently has 7 wins. lol

Admiral 11-29-2012 07:15 PM

yeah, how does a guy go from being in the starting lineup to being gone from the team
isn't it supposed to be like a hierarchy so players move up and down the depth chart? no so much in and out of the team???

KoolAid 11-29-2012 07:18 PM

Not with the Raptors :cookie:

Our worst player (bar Acy maybe) was also our starting SF

He was in the starting lineup because two better SF's were injured. They aren't going to waive Kleiza (too pricy and he's better than McGuire) and the only other option is a player on a rookie deal.

Pietrus is a choker.

Mobat 11-29-2012 07:24 PM

Poor Pietrus, has no chance at continuing his NBA career on this team.

Huuuuhh? Why would we lose the amnesty?

We're waiving McGuire. We can't use the amnesty until next summer, but no we don't lose the amnesty.

Chris Haynes, CSNNW.com NBA & Trail Blazers Insider

After a prolonged offseason, free agent guard/forward Mickael Pietrus and the Toronto Raptors have agreed upon a one year deal worth the veteran's minimum, CSNNW.com has learned.

The deal will be finalized Friday morning and Pietrus is expected to suit up Friday night when the Raptors host the Phoenix Suns.

Bill McCandless, the agent who represents Pietrus, confirmed this agreement to CSNNW.com via text message.

"It has been a long journey and a long summer," McCandless told CSNNW.com. "We started this process first off with high expectations in July and had a bunch of phone calls. We spoke with Chicago and Houston early on. As we got deeper in the year, we had conversations with Atlanta, Minnesota, and Toronto.

"We never heard from the Lakers. There was never any interest from them. At the end of the day, Toronto was the place for him and he's happy to be there. He is going to place where he knows he's going to play and help the team and he has a high regard for Bryan Colangelo (Raptors General Manager).

Pietrus, 30, will immediately fill a void for the Raptors at small forward. The team's four small forwards in Landry Fields (elbow surgery), Dominic McGuire, Alan Anderson (torn plantar fascia), and Linas Kleiza haven't played well up to this point.

Pietrus passed a rigorous physical examination in Toronto today.

The nine-year NBA vet had his right knee scoped in Boston this past summer to relieve discomfort he felt during the 2011-12 season. That procedure was performed as a do-over to his first operation on the same knee a year earlier in France.

Post surgery, the nine-year NBA veteran resumed workouts in early August and has been pain-free ever since.

The Raptors will have to waive one of their 15 players to make room for the defensive specialist.

For his career, Pietrus averages 8.4 points per game, shoots 42 percent from the field and 35 percent from thee-point range.
