its pretty sad that we signed fields to big money and we got sign a unrestricted free agent to the minimum and he is so much better

raptors would have been better off giving oj mayo the money instead,

the best part about pietrus is that he spreads the floor, and he seems to know where to be

well if you mean he goes straight to the corner then i guess he knows where he needs to be
he always reminds of me luol deng, maybe its the swingman thats really dark and from europe, but its also the type of game, not exceptional at any one thing but very good at everything, except deng is better at it all then pietrus, still pietrus has all the skills, plus they are both good defensively

We haven't seen a healthy Fields yet.... and Pietrus has only played 1 game.

Slow down.

He was healthy last year.... Pietrus has been a solid contributor for years.

Fields isn’t a bad player, but was just overpaid. I would have signed that contract too if I were in his position. BC admittedly said he signed him as a "preemptive strike" to secure Nash. Fields' is pretty much unmovable right now in a 1 for 1 trade. With that said, he was playing injured and if he can come close to his rookie production he can easily be moved. He does become valuable in his third year as an expiring as well. Additionally, I don't think he's the solution at the 3spot for us. There's still a black hole there. Pietrus was a good pick up, but he's pretty much a band-aid solution. RE mayo: I wanted to draft Drummond and pick up Mayo in the offseason (still would have), but BC decided to go with T Ross so it didn't make sense.

Yup.

Nope, he can be had for something but it won't be pretty in a 1 for 1 deal (ie. Drew Gooden).

Fields isn't a good player either... he's an average player, probably in the same tier as Pietrus, James Johnson, Amir Johnson, Gary Neal, Matt Bonner, etc.... it's a hige tier, guys you do not want to overpay for. Sometimes it works out, generally it does not. Role players need to not be the priority before a core is established.

Don't be mad, I'm trying to be as nice as possible here re: Fields.

In his first 32 minutes? For me it seemed like he wasn't doing much. Rebounds, assists and steals were low to non. Not much when u play 30+ minutes. Sure, new team bla bla bla, but he hasn't shown anything yet.

He showed more in his first game in about 5 months than any SF on our team has shown all season imo. He deflected a couple passes, was solid defensively and hit a couple three's. I'll take it from a player that should be quite rusty.

Not a bad illustration. If you look back to his rookie season, he's right in that mix. It's better not to overpay on a long-term deal (like Kapano). If Amir was signed to like 4 years 20 million, not too many people would have been talking about his contract. Although, Amir hasn't really digressed, that extra 1-2 million dollars per year makes him a little less attractive as a trading chip.

Agreed, but in today's NBA when you can get MP for vet min and there are others too, overpaying by 2-4 million on this type can really add up and bind a team. Heck, the amnesty has cut loose some incredibly cheap talent too.

REAAALY? You hate Kleiza that bad that you choose to ignore his 17 points in one quarter?
Pietrus didn't do nothing bad because he was ignored, didn't get the ball much, he didn't have chance to fail yet, but he will, they all do. We need doer, not not doing bad stuff guys a.k.a. fields.
I believe Pietrus might become our best SF over time, but his first game wasn't better than any previous game of our SFs this season. Kleiza and AA had some good games, much better than Pietrus' one game. McGuire had good nights @ D when he didn't start too.

jeffb, I dislike you. A lot

I actually like Kleiza, anyone here can atest to that and i can easily say that he hasn't been good at all when called upon this season. He's far too inconsistent.

Kleiza has disappointed despite Jeff's belief in him.... one amazing quarter, I've been hoping for more.... besides, he's a 3-4, Pietrus is straight up a SF stud!!!

Most of Kleiza's stats are worse this season, probably due to those personal troubles or whatever he was dealing with. I do expect more of him, especially while Fields is out.

All the love to Kleiza, he does seem off.. Just detached and sloppy in some situations.. That said Pietrus is no solution long or short-term.. And injury or not, Fields is not a starter either, with Memphis record so far Deng is as good as it gets.. And truth be dold I don't think he can make much of an influence either..

What if this team is doomed for years and years to come because of Lowry's signing?
I mean if we haven't signed him we could easily tank away all this and next seasons, we'd still have 2013 first round pick, we could have chances at Wiggins in 2014, JV and Ross would have 2 years of 30+ minutes, we wouldn't have to worry about resigning guys like Lowry. Is it worth to be 10th in the East for some 2-3 years to come just to start tanking all over again? Lowry is big, but not big enough to be a game changer. We should trade him, Bargnani and Calderon for first round picks of Washington and other crappy teams.

Or keep signing fields and pietrus of this league, trying to improve from 10th to 9th.

Some players don't work out for some coaches and get cut. Fields is high IQ player, I'm sure we see a better side of him when he returns.

If Raptors needed hi IQ player, they would have signed a veteran.
