It kind of makes me laugh that the SF choices are still: Kleiza, Fields, Peitrus, Anderson.

Classic example of Raptors hiring a bunch of below average players and hoping that one will play above expectations.

And an example of how in too many cases they entice players to come here in order to have the chance to play above expectations. That just makes for bad basketball. We need to piece together a team of players that play within themselves and allow the team to play above expectations. Maybe that happens here, but given the circumstances that Pietrus was facing, I'm doubting that.

In the end, Pietrus passed up five offers – from the Atlanta Hawks, Indiana Pacers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Philadelphia 76ers and San Antonio Spurs – due to the Raptors’ relentless pursuit. Recently, Pietrus rejected the Spurs’ offer of a contract guaranteeing just one month.

Pietrus’ camp has been in dialogue with the Raptors since the offseason, and Toronto general manager Bryan Colangelo has attempted to acquire the 6-foot-6 forward through trade in the past.

I for one am happy about this move

He serves a direct need. Good defender, avg offensive player, better than what we had available at the 3 from the start of the season.

We just upgraded after a terrible 3-13 stretch. What's there to complain about.

Pietrus shot 42% from the corner last season. He better camp the fuck out in the coners.

I still think that Fields can be that guy when it comes to the SF spot.

I really hope that his struggles were all due to his injury because it just didn't make sense for him to be that bad. He's a good kid and a smart kid. He's the kind of guy who would be a key player for the Spurs.

Bottom line is, we saw some good things, but Ross is still a boy.

And how many ends of tight games do you think Pietrus would have been in to this point?

WTF happened to McGuire? I thought GS was gunna thoroughly miss him? Thought he was supposed to be a defensive stopper? I didn't really see him do anything out there actually.

I guess this was the only way to get Casey to bench mcguire
in all seriousness, this move is going to be huge for us, I prediect Pietrus will add 0.3 wins to our total this season, rounded down.

he just has to make sure to bring a pillow, because on this team, he'll be waiting a loooong time for someone to pass him the ball ...

in fairness, this is not uncommon in the nba, teams do this all the time. Good players don't usually leave teams, so you have to reach for players with warts. most of the time it doesn't work, but now and again a team may get lucky. Remember when zach randolph was chaning teams every 6 months and he was considered a cancer? Look at Boston, in the past 2 years they've signed/drafted darko, JO, wallace, hollins, fab melo etc trying to find a way to plug that hole in the middle.

Signing Pietrus over Chris Douglas-Roberts is yet another smoking gun for this franchise being terribly run. Say what you want about CDR but at least he's 25, seems like he has upside as he has size and skill for a wing, he's destroying the D League which is a good sign, and he's exactly the type of player that could use free burn and we're in the perfect position to just hand over SF minutes on a platter to someone. Considering we're 3-13 and there's no chance of making the playoffs, in principle, we should be taking the 25 year old prospect over the 30 year old broken down guy every time. I know it's sad but I'm actually pissed we didn't sign CDR. I wouldn't have been surprised at all to see CDR at least make a Sonny Weems/Jamario Moon level "breakout" on our team. At least that'd have made the season more fun

Great point. I forgot about that guy (CDR).

All that remains is for some other team to take him and have him blow up lol.

we've been interested in pietrus for a while, and he brings that veteran presence, we need that.
