Hopefully Pietrus is healthy and in shape, because if he is at least he can play some D and take open 3s, which should open up the floor a bit for Lowry and Derozan. I wont hold my breath though.
Yep.

Nope. Waive a player that was only playing because of injuries to better players to bring in a better player that had interest from Atlanta, Dallas, Minnesota (playoff teams).

More evidence of a GM grasping for straws.

I don't think McGuire was the defensive stopper he was made out to be.

Every loss from now on I'm going to say: "That game was the Peaches' knees"

Add SA and Pacers - 5 playoff teams that wanted him.

Ask yourself if Pietrus had been here all this time instead of McGuire whether they would be 3-13? Doesn't mean he's the answer, but when you loses so many games by a point or 2 or in overtime, it's not a stretch to think the record would be more respectable.

JEff I've never seen you come across so happy in a thread!!!!

I don't think MP is actually too bad of a signing, but if Jeff likes him he'll bound to end up cursed (Ed, Lowry et al).

I think it's a stretch. He's been sitting at home waiting for somebody, anybody to offer him more than the absolute minimum they could offer him.

He finally took that absolute minimum from a team that is 3-13.

It will be a feel-good story if he lights it up.

Ammo has an excellent point, getting more than 2 points from the starting SF spot, a deep threat to space the floor and a top tier defender (man I hope he's healthy) could have the Raps record closer to .500

And regarding MP, not like he sat at home eating chips and blogging, he was training in France. I like 1 year vet min contracts, he has a lot to prove if he wants another NBA contract after this year - that's a good position for the Raps to be in - especially since he hangs his hat on defense.

Voice of reason!

Let's face it, the team can't get any worse.

He's automatically the best shooter we have on the wing, sad as that might be and he's a decent defender. And as Doc said, he's got something to prove. This should help, to what extent remains to be seen. I'm cautiously optomistic, very cautious.

It's yet another guy taking our min contract over the min contract from good teams, in order to take on a bigger role here than he would otherwise anywhere else. It's not about being a good fit and taking on a suitable role and winning. He's in it to establish himself as more than a limited role player. And we haven't seen that work out yet.

We need a trade to help right the ship here. Instead we get a shipload of band-aids again.

I'm talking about right from the beginning of the season. But who knew that this team would be pounding their foreheads on defense instead of pounding the rock.

I understand what Casey was going for inserting McGuire when he wanted some defensive toughness and then starting him when his SFs went down but this team needs at least passable 2-way players because teams do not seem to fear them at all on offense.

Hopefully he does still have some athleticism left.

Mandatory mix:
