Bottom line is that we improved the team by adding, in net terms, 3 solid pieces and we maintained a lot of flexibility for the next season when we'll be able to be in the mix for another talented player.

This team will never win a title, that much should be clear. On the other hand, if we can add another top 30 player somehow during the next 12 months (a SF ideally), we'd have a very solid core for almost a decade. Not title winning, but definitely 50+ wins kind of a team, which is more than we ever had.

Let's face it, we have a terrible reputation as a franchise, and a few years of 50+ wins will do a lot to change that, and hopefully we'll be able to build on that in the next decade.
If you can become a 50+ win team and have a coach that is respected throughout the league there is no reason we can't start eventually attracting higher end players and compete for a title. To say we'll never win a title is a little too pessimistic. Especially if you think we can start winning 50+ games. I thought people have been saying for years that winning will attract better players? Now, of course i have my doubts because with the exception of a couple years in our history our luck has never been great to say the least. But i have hope.

i think moremilk was being a tad pessimistic just to make his point, about how you build and about what (some) people's expectations were for some kind of immediate fix.

his point, and yours above were both well made.

What you all don't understand is a wicked plan by BC to disguise these bums as trade pieces and pull off a superstar trade a la Melo!
You ask who's the superstar? Well.. hmm.. let's just stay flexible then, I heard it's a good thing.

We are much better than last year, like stated above, we need to build a reputation before people want to come here

We should free up our salary cap and throw max for Harden, who is capable of becoming a top tier SG. Since OKC is fully loaded with salary cap (KD+RW+Ibaka+Perkins=54M already..), they won't be able to match Harden without luxury tax.

I think there would be several teams who would be willing to offer Max to Harden next season, so Raps should try their best to get Harden

Harden is one of those under-rated players that has capability of becoming an ace player in any team. He always played as a third scoring option (next to KD and RW) from the team and still had similar stat as DD, who was like 1.5th scoring option from Raps.

Most teams do not have salary cap for Max Harden, but we do, as Jose's contact will expire. If that's not enough, then we would have to amnesty Amir or Kleiza

Imagine a starting lineup of Lowry-Harden-DD-Barg-JV.. that will be sweet

My point was that i would say that everyone on here has thought of that and it's been brought up several times.

Lowry/Calderon?/Lucas
Harden/Ross/Aderson
Derozan/Fields/Kleiza
Bargnani/Davis/Acy
Valanciunas/Amir/Gray

^ That is just an ideal depth chart for us imo and i think i'd blow a load over that lineup, but i would say it's extremely unlikely and even if we signed Harden by some miracle, a couple of the other players would have to be moved for capspace. Still fun to dream about though.

If they can get on a Mavs track -- consistently winning 50+, perennial playoff team -- that will do a lot to change the team's reputation around the league, and they'll be much more able to attract free agents or make more favourable deals to get them over the treadmill team hump. But you need to get to that treadmill team level of performance first, I think.
