Default Raptors should pick up Josh Smith!!

Marc Stein: Hawks have convinced numerous teams that Josh Smith will be moved between now and Thursday 3 PM deadline. Question remains where exactly
Clearly Atlanta wants to get rid of him, Raptors should pick up Smith.

If u can include Bargnani in there and remove some clutter at the wings sure, even if he doesn't guarantee signing here

Who do we trade to make this happen? Not Bargnani, cuz they won't take that.

Other teams will offer more than we will. If he gets signed and traded I have a strong inkling it'll be to Houston. As a rental he could end up a bunch of places.

I already commented on this in another thread. To my knowledge, the new CBA does not allow a 5th year on S&T transactions, so there is no reason for a team like Houston to work with Atlanta to get Smith a 5th year on his contract and keep him happy. This summer Houston has enough cap space to sign Smith outright. If Houston was willing to pay him the max, and Smith wanted to go there, they'd just sign him as an FA. There is no point in Houston giving up an asset when they don't have to do it.

This summer the only teams willing to do a S&T for Smith will be the ones who don't have enough cap space to sign him outright.

it would have to include at least one of Jonas, Ross, Gay and DeMar. Gay - not happening. Jonas - hopefully not either, though I wouldn't put it completely past Colangelo.

So, Ross or DeMar + 3rd team to take on Bargnani and send expirings/assets to Atlanta.

I'm all for getting him but doubt we can. Also, how would he mesh with Gay. He'd better not think he'd be the first option if he comes here or were going to have a lot of trouble.

I wouldn't mind this, and for those of you who are asking with what assets, think about one of the offers ATL has got...
Humphries and Brooks with a pick or two from Brooklyn.

id rather not break up our core for him atm.

we HAVE to KEEP demar, rudy, lowry, JV.

i dont think we should rush things. let this core get more chemistry. let Bargs up his value, reevaluate in the offseason.

but if a deccent trade for Bargs comes up now lets do it. dont break this core up pls. dont trade demar.

Smith for Bargs, Ross, Anderson and Acy

We would have an advantage to sign him with the 5th year and playing with Gay, Derozan and Lowry might intrigue him. We would have the most athletic starters in the league.
