Default raptors should buy draft picks

click below

Dallas Mavericks Want Dwight Howard, Set To Trade Draft Pick?

why not buy the pick and take michael Carter williams or shroeder to be our back up pg,

atlanta has a 16 and 17th pick, could buy there

it makes more sense buying picks and drafting instead of going out and signing free agents that are going to cost more and potentially effect our cap situation where as you can get rookies with all forgiving cap friendly rookie contracts

plus if we get the right gm who can find players deeper in the draft like masai did two years in row with denver well that could a perfect storm for the raptors

like to see the new ownership group step up and allow the gm to buy and load up picks similar to what portladn was able to do years back

what do you guys think?

I doubt they'll straight up sell it for money. Cuban would probably rather take someone like Dario Saric or Gobert and stash him overseas for a year.

But Toronto might be able to get that pick by combining some of their 2nd rounders (including 1 early 2nd rounder next year) and cash, maybe take on another small contract to clear even more room. That idea was posted in the trades thread.

Getting a young (cheap) PG to develop behind Lowry would be nice.

Trey Burke or C.J. McCollum would be really nice additions as second point guard - getting either one from a Bargnani trade would be good value in a package.

If a second round pick could be had for cheap, then Kabongo might be worth a look, though he's not ready to be a back up just yet, he'd be a decent third PG.

Who in the hell would sell a first round draft pick? Do you mean trade for?

They would be looking to dump salary with the pick - so in all likelihood you'd be "trading" cap space and cash for their pick. We are not in a position to do so.

If you're looking for a PG, then this isn't a bad draft at all.

There's just not much as far as bigs and wings, and not much superstar talent.

I don't see anyone being a franchise player in this draft, but if you just want a PG that can start somewhere down the road, then there are a number of options.

I don't think Telfair will survive a new GM.

JLIII, maybe, he's not as bad as some make him out to be.

So, we're looking for a second/third PG.

It might be worth taking a gamble on a guy like Shroeder, Carter-Williams, or even Myck Kabongo, since they have starting PG upside.

If JL3 picks up his option no way he'd be our 1st backup.

Lowry/FA?/JL3/draft pick??

I was thinking more like Lowry/JL/draft pick.

If there's a good FA available then Lowry/FA/JL and forget the pick.

Or, Lowry/FA/2nd round gamble.

i think outside top 5 might even be better - cheaper to get and possibly just as high talent level. I don't know that I feel better about McLeMore who's typically projected top 3 than CJ McCollum who's typically ~10 in mock drafts.

Also, I love how Chad Ford projected Anthony Bennett at no.8-9 with a shot to go no.1 for some teams --- until Cleveland won the lotto.
I don't remember another time when someone's range was 1-9 with only a month till the draft. This draft should be interesting.

If JL3 leaves i'd be all in on the 2nd option. The first option is puke worthy.

JL3 has a team option, not a player option. We get to decide if he comes back. If we go out and find a backup, he won't. If we don't, he probably will.
