my prediction for the first 20 games is 6-14. predicting the entire season is difficult to me, because i believe that the first 20 or so games will determine which direction this team will go.

If not many changes occur: 37-45

If we get off to a horrible start and sell off our bigger contracts: 26-56

I want to say 41-41 and 6th seed but it's a wishful thinking. 32-50 will be more down to earth.

26-56

This was factoring in a poor start and a concerted effort to trade away Gay and/or Demar and Lowry in between January and February. Still might not be enough for 1st overall but gives the Raptors a decent chance at being in the top 5.

42-40. The starting-line-up will compete on a nightly basis, but the bench will make or break the season. Jonas for most improved player.

The whole point was to look at the schedule, without bias and without counting how many wins, and choose which ones you actually think we'll win. Everybody just choosing a number is only doing so to support their agenda.

You expected everyone to post all 82 games post a little W or L........and you don't think that they would choose according to their agenda?

The point is so people can't just choose a random number they think befitting, they actually look at the schedule and observe and think about if we can actually win, especially depending on the different situations that can occur.

In the other thread about the broader NBA schedule, there was some talk about the 3 back-to-backs the Raptors have to play so early on in the schedule.

I noticed something interesting about the start of the season last year. Even with their horriawful start last year, the Raptors won 3/4 of the 2nd night games in their first 4 back-to-backs last year, inlcuding a road win against the Pacers. And their 5th 2nd night of a back-to-back was the foul on Bargnani in Charlotte, that caused the league to issue an apology, so it easily could have been 4 out of 5 on the 2nd night of back-to-backs. I'm not sure back-to-backs are as big a deal early in the season, although they still suck.

So, it will be tough with those games being in a short period of time, but I think with it being early in the season, the Raps will have more gas in tank. Winning 2 of 3 is not that ridiculous, given the quality of the opponents on the 2nd night (Milwaukee, Charlotte, Utah.

I actually did do this but I didn't want to post the whole thing of text, figured it would be intrusive.

completely impossible to know, predicting the start was random enough as most people admitted when making their predictions.

we don't even know how long we'll be properly trying to win yet and whether the team will be blown up at any point. then of course there's injuries, form and unexpected results to factor in.

i think we're capable of winning up to 42 games, but there's no point going game by game to try and work that out.

I really think they can get on a roll early. They are young and if in good condition to start with, can pounce on a few teams. I look at only one if, aside from the need to not have a crazy number of injuries, and that is IF they can assert themselves defensively, THEN they have a real shot at 50 wins. Yeah - that's a big jump. But I think that is entirely feasible in the absence of Andrea, Jose, and Bryan. This team looks like it can have something of a singular purpose across the roster, and that along with a defensive identity can do wonders in this league. I've seen it with other teams for all 17 years of the Raptors never finding that mix. It is time. At least it feels like it could be.

For the time being, I look at every game on the schedule as winnable, and look forward to seeing the games more than wanting to prognosticate all that much.

I think we'll struggle.... when you look around the league, a lot of teams will be competitive. I see Utah as a team that got way younger but still should be a better squad than us.... I don't think we can take for granted that other squads won't have similar 'organic' growth.

37-45
