Agreed. I have nothing against the guy, in fact I was excited we were able to get him, but wasn't impressed with what I saw last year.

The issue is when Lowry is able to be aggressive and isn't "neutered" he plays recklessly and gets hurt.

In the last 3 seasons how many games has he missed due to recklessness? I'll tell you.......

2010-11: Missed 7 games with obviously a minor injury

2011-12: Missed 19 games to a staff infection which has nothing to do with his style of play........or his play at all for that matter.

2012-13: Missed 14 games due to sprained ankle.

So, in the last 3 seasons, when he first became a full time starter (averaged 31mpg in those seasons combined) he's missed a grand total of 21 games due to basketball related injuries which may or may not be attributed to reckless play.

I think JoJo got it backwards.. lol

Personally, I think 35 wins sounds about right.

19-22 pre-tank

3-39 post-tank

3rd most lottery balls

moving forward with a core of JV, Demar, Ross, Acy, Amir, 3 first rounders (one high lottery), more money to spend

We'd never win only 3 games with that core, thats worse than even the bobcats.

Plus you have one to many games lol

You're right about the games.

19-22 pre-tank

3-38 post-tank

But if we can get some youth playing time for Acy and Ross and some expiring stiffs, yes, we too can be the Bobcats. Someone just needs to kidnap Casey.

Lets at least go 10-72 so we don't get confused for them LOL

Nope... 45-37! I'm feeling positive about this team and think we will be decent! ... and I'm sticking to it!

The east is going to be more competitive than it has been for a while next season. I wouldn't bank on us winning enough to be higher than 7th seed.

People said that about the EC last season. People here picked washington to be a playoff team. And the 8th seed won 37 games. This season there are question marks in Detroit, Milwaukee, Atlanta and Cleveland is not a lock for anything especially with so much riding on Bynum and his health. Add to that Boston and Philly retooling and it's very unpredictable. Not that I think we're in the running for better than 7th which might even be a stretch.

last year there were an unusually large number of injuries to best players on a team, which is unlikely to happen again. You had a lot of top players missing huge chunks of the season, from drummond, irving and wall to rose and rondo. Had all those been available, the east would have been much stronger. Even so, the top 7 teams were actually fairly even matched in terms of wins-losses with the west, it was the bottom 8 that were the problem.

Of course, it's irrelevant - because the real issue is that, assuming the east is weak and we only win 37 games and make the playoff - is that a success? Does anybody look at milwaukee (very similar situation - they also have a very promising young big) and thinks future contender ... ?

saying that a lot of things have to go right is the equivalent of saying the odds are fairly low.

So you think we're basically a team that has a small chance to be .500...

It's not that I disagree, quite the opposite - that's exactly my view. But I can't understand why people want to keep this core if all we are is a borderline .500 team? What's the point?

Thank you! And add to the fact 3/5 starters are already in their prime, we're not going to become much better.

I'll explain myself since its a lazy sunday morning...Top 15 reasons the Raptors will be better, in mo particular order...

1. JV will improve and won't get the shitty rookie calls. He never bithces at the refs and that all means more playing time and he's the best we have at C.
2. Hansbrough is good back-up at PF for this team defensively and as much as I hate him I like him.
3. For the entire year, Lowry and Gay.
4. Lowry comes off a lingering injury.
5. Gay can see well again and will shoot better. And if you don't beleive that eyesight is important then there's no helping you.
6. Fields has repaired his elbow. Although he's probably not going to be great from 3 he will shoot average for a back-up from 2 and will not miss easy lay-ups at least (which cost us a couple early on last year).
7. Delete Bargnani, Klieza, Anderson (JL3).
8, Derozan and Amir are another year older/better. Especially Amir.
9. No point guard controvery and no flipping back and forth in play styles.
10. No BC to mess with playing time.
11. Casey's contract expires, Lowry and possibly Gay. They are all in this together whether Lowry likes it or not.
12. Novak is better for us that Bargs was last year. (not syaing Novak is better than Bargs but since all Bargs did was shoot 3's basically, Novak is a better player for that job).
13. More confidence in MU than BC to pick up additional pieces from tanking teams, but useful pieces.
14. Ross is a year older but I don't think that will impact aton. But if we win more at least he sees the floor more and has a chance.
15. Because I'm tired of being so damn negative about this terrible franchise!

I just see lot of positive change.

But... any serious injury to Lowry, Gay, Amir or JV and we are doomed. But many teams are like that. Wall, Kyrie, Milsap.

You pretty much nailed it there JoJo. Although I would have hesitated mentioning Fields at all. If he shows anything, I think it's gravy.

It might be a year too soon to be positive, but fuck it, I'm ready now, and there are enough good signs to lean that way. That doesn't mean there won't need to be changes. Not by a long shot, but it could be the start of something real nice long term, with something nice to build on as things stand.

Perhaps its just the pessimist in me but in that list I see a lot of assumptions and a lot of things that have to go well for us to have a shot at the playoffs
