Yeah, I'm aware they are in the west, but I just think we'll struggle against even the bottom of the west.... I don't see us as having grown as much as we'll have needed to. Even Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee, Boston will remain very competitive with us. It's going to be a struggle to stay in the race.

Very hard to predict what this team will do. Two things have to happen for us to have a good season.......

1) Stay relatively healthy
2) Get back to the defensive system of 2011-12

Those two things happen we'll be in most games and we could have some success.

I'm not sold that the defensive system was all that good.... I think we relied heavily on fouling and didn't have the ability to sustain defensive control when teams cranked up their intensity. Maybe with Gay, we'll finally have a guy that can get a stop if needed, but that will largely depend on getting these guys to buy in to an aggressive defensive intensity.... hard to see that actually sustaining.

I agree but we allowed the 11th fewest ppg in the league that season and were in most games with less talent then our current roster.

We need good D and fluid transition and smooth offense. I can see some good D but wasn't impressed at all with our offense to say the least.

We had no talent at all two years ago.

I guess it's better to have a chance, though I don't think our talent upgrade has been any more substantial than other teams in our tier.

We got Gay, we shipped Ed and Jose, better talent but the PG position is still a question mark.

Our PG position has been a question mark since Alvin retired. I have absolutely no problem with Lowry. In fact I would say Lowry is one of the most talented PG we've ever had. Talent wise.

Didn't we beat them two seasons ago in OKC with Harden, with a worse team? I wouldn't pick them to win mind you but stranger things have happened. OKC is more beatable now then they have been in years.

Exactly my thoughts. Every team is beatable.

Agreed. Slightly better. Not by much though.

I'm not sure about a lot of the negativity regarding Lowry, I don't recall having any pg better except for maybe Damon but then he was quite spotty - in play and in the head.

I think we expected more, BC sold him to us as a close all-star PG, while we got an upgrade over Jose when it comes to D, he wasn't better than Jose in terms of handling the ball.

BC never sold me on anything. I had watched quite a bit of him the previous couple years. I know how good he is when he's is right and most of all when he is allowed to play his game. If Casey puts the clamps on him this season as he seemed to do last season I expect more of the same of what we saw last season. If you're basing your opinion on Lowry on one season on a new team, playing on a bum ankle for half the season and essentially not allowed to play his game then I suppose you are entitled to that but imo it's short sighted. I just pray he's allowed to play his game.

It's a bit ridiculous to constantly hear how the clamps were put on this guy. Neutered, held back, cockblocked... whatever the term is, the dude just flat out disappointed, and it wasn't the first time in his career. Some were just overly optimistic to think that the stretch that he played well in Houston was the norm and would magically be his 82 game ability.

He went from starting the season averaging 24/8/6 and taking 13-14 shots per game to not being aggressive and taking 7-8 shots per game. If you watched him the previous 3 seasons in Houston, then watched him here last season you know something was up. Part of it was his injury the first half but a large part of it was Casey. Seems obvious unless you simply don't like Lowry. Even the media was saying he was being told to be more passive.

So the 2 year stretch in Houston where he as a starter averaged:

15.9ppg/7asts/5.2reb (38 starts in shortened season)

14ppg/6.8asts/4rpg (71 starts)

That's not the norm but last season was? I guess it depends on where you're coming from. IMO when allowed to be aggressive and play his game he's a 15/7/5 PG.

I never said last season was the norm... I just think the extended upside is transitory in nature
