Raptors Salary for next year

HoopsHype - NBA Salaries - Toronto Raptors

As you can see, we are being screwed by Linas on this one. If we get rid of him then we will have some nice cap space to work with. Also, i don't think we would be expecting Barbosa back next year as well as Julian Wright so that should free up some more space. If we can Reggie back at even 1.5 million a year that would be great. The only problem is who will take on Linas's huge contract and what do we do with Jose's 9 million dollars a year?

With Barbosa not coming back, Linas gone and Julian Wright gone, the raptors will be hovering around mid to high 30 million dollars next year.

Arm chair GMs go (including me)

Cap space? Who needs capspace?

Remember what happened last time we went for capspace? We got ourself a Hedo. While losing Marion, AP, Humphries to make room for "cap space"

We can't get much more than MLE money anyway. Not enough to sign a mystical defensive centre. And if cap will shrink it'll be useless.

Chiggmo 06-06-2011 02:46 AM

Considering the new CBA on the way, its irrelevant how much space we might have coming up, at least for now.

Shifty.py 06-06-2011 03:38 AM

And to add, you're too fast on giving up our players.
Kleizas contract is not huge
Julian Wright and Barbosa should be kept
and Reggie should go if he wants more than veterans minimum

we have no chance on free agent market, so at least lets keep assets that we can use in a trade in future

Honestly I want Barbs to get his surgery, and we keep him, but only to use as trade bait later on. Could possibly net us something down the road at the deadline when someone needs that good bench scorer.

Really, kleiza's 4.6Mil is so huge?

I can see his concern if you take into consideration what the new salary structure might look like and the fact that he's owed that for three more seasons with no guarantees on how well he'll perform if and when he does come back.

insurance sshould kick in this upcoming seasson for kleiza paying 80% of his salary though until he is healthy enough to play again whether next season or never.

True enough, but he makes it sound like Kleiza's contract is so massive. Ultimately, the nearly 20Mil owed to our worst two defensive players are far more hurtful to us.

Yeah, but they still offer enough on the court that they can be moved. No one's going to trade for a guy that can't walk.

To be honest, If we can move Bargs/Jose for decent talent I'd care a lot less about Kleiza's salary.

Disabled Player Exception: Allows a team that is over the cap to acquire a replacement for a disabled player who will be out for either the remainder of that season (for in-season injuries/deaths) or the next season (if the disability occurs during the offseason). The maximum salary of the replacement player is either 50% of the injured player's salary, or the average salary, whichever is less. This exception requires an NBA-designated doctor to verify the extent of the injury.

Guys, the reason Barbosa leaves is that first it is a player option, so he will likely not take it. He is a veteran in the league and teams like the Lakers who might need a back SG will go after him. He will be getting calls from title contenders. As for Jose, i personally don't see us getting rid of him this year. He will stay as we have no clue who will be available at the number 5 pick (assuming we don't move up). We have no clue what the cap will look like with the new CBA and with players "only" taking up 4.6 million like Klieza while being marginal contributors if they can EVEN PLAY is a huge blow. That is 4.6 million dollars down the drain. As for Julian Wright, i want his ass gone. He refused the coach's orders to get his bench warming ass in the game. That 4 million with the qualifying over is awful for a player like him. The raptors should look to cut some salary so they can have flexibility in the future to sign young guys like DD and Ed Davis (this team's future at the PF and future all-star:yeah:). As for Evans, i really don't see any team going after him with more than 2 million a year MAX. He has been injured the past 2 years, ageing veteran with no Offensive game. That 5 million he is getting is ridiculous and i don't ever see him getting that kind of money away.

I would much rather have space by dumping Kleiza, Julian wright and giving Reggie a smaller contract if he wants to stay and have a shot at guys like Thaddeus Young, Marc Gasol, Wilson Chandler. Even though it is a small hope, you never know. Plus the less money we have to spend on useless players, the less money the MLSE or who ever the new owner has to pay, the better for fans as we won't have to hear about "raising ticket prices" or raptors leaving town because "of poor financial situation" (as little as those scenarios maybe, you never know)

As for Jose and Primo pasta boy (he is not a man), i would love it if we can get some talent for those guys and free up that 20 million. If we do that, then who cares about Linas's contract ( i agree with that). But knowing the raptors, those guys are sticking around for one more year atleast.

That Jose 10 million just sickens me.

Why is peja on our salary?

Shifty.py 06-08-2011 03:47 AM

His contract was bought out so that Dallas can become champions ;)
The amount actually paid was unspecified, but he still counts against the cap in full amount.
