10. The economy.
9. I gave the extension to one Jose Calderon, not this guy wearing his jersey. Who is he?
8. When I said this is the “best” team I’ve ever assembled, I actually meant this is the “worst” team I’ve ever assembled. I see how you got confused.
7. That punk Kapono conned me.
6. I left my scouting ability at the border.
5. Realized too late that Wayne Embry wasn’t the doorman but, you know, a basketball guy.
4. They lied to me about Hassan Adams.
3. Hey, how was I supposed to know Jermaine wouldn’t stay healthy?
2. This team needs 80 games to “gel”. Wait for it, its gonna be good.

…and the #1 Colangelo excuse for this season…drum roll….

1. Daddy doesn’t return my phone calls.

Main reason, the trade for Jo which most had a hard on for didn't work. Everyone knew it was risky and said it was worth it because if it worked it would be huge. And that if it did work, we could be a top 4-6 team in the east. Well it didn't work, add to that, injuries to our best players and the toughest schedule in the league in Nov-Dec, and it's a forgetable season.

I'm not sure if it's a good thing that it's gotten to the point where I can laugh at stuff like this, or if it's just plain pathetic.

I'm thinking Colange was looking past this year more than anything else. He probably had some good expectations, but only meant to convert any success to being able to play a stronger hand in moving JO or whatever.

It always makes me laugh when people rip into BC for this season. When those people are probably among the very many that picked this team to win 45-50 games (depending on how delusional you were at the time, lol) based on the roster. Not many of the journalists/bloggers/broadcasters picked this team to be out of the playoffs, let alone flirt with not winning 30 games. In other words his moves looked just fine 6 months ago!

I'm not sure if BC was looking past this season when he acquired JO. Two years at $20+mil was a serious investment. It also meant weakening an already deficient bench even further.
I think he legitimately thought that getting him would address the glaring weaknesses of last years squad. He obviously mis-calculated in thinking he needed a (former) all-star to provide rebounding and interior toughness. JO needed the ball too often, that's his game.
BC was trying to hit a home run. He took a big swing and missed.

like all of us, he completely over valued our top players (bosh, jose and JO). At the beginning of the year, we though Chris might enter a peripheral MVP conversation, Jose will make the next step to all-stardom, and JO will experience a career revival. I think if these 3 assumption would have turned out correct, we could have beaten the 47 wins record.

Unfortunately, Bosh is showing is nothing more than a borderline all-star forward, Calderon looks like a D-Leaguer and JO doesn't seem to have enough in the tank, despite being in his prime (4 years younger than Duncan).

In the NBA the difference between pathetic and great is really quite small (and yet so hard to overcome) ...

I thought my add-in reasons were more comedic, but less factual.

We're so bad it's funny.

the reality is that without hitting a home run, it's close to impossible to win a title. Boston gambled on KG and a injury ridden allen, and won a title. Phoenix and Dallas took similar gambles with veteran super stars and failed royally.

If Cleveland, Orlando and NO don't hit a home run in the playoffs, they would be bottom feeders.

And the JO trade was low-risk, high-reward type of thing, and it was a smart thing to do. I find it either stupid or hypocritical that fans criticize that trade. I remember how more than 50% chance thought that Boston made a big mistake trading for two aging veterans, and almost nobody considered them to be a contender before that season. After 7 months, Ainge was a hero and the smartest GM in basketball ...
