Raptors Raptors priority now is playing JV & TR

Quote:
Dwane Casey spoke once again about integrating rookies into the rotation as the season winds down. While every coach’s ultimate goal is to win, sometimes that takes a back seat. In the home stretch of a playoff-less season, the Raptors have made the development of Valanciunas and Terrence Ross a priority, even when it might affect the final outcome of the game.

“You’ve got to put guys out there and make sure they do the right things,” Casey said. “Winning is the bottom line, but for the future of the organization we’ve got to give JV big minutes, we’ve got to give Terrence minutes. We’ve got to look at some other people in certain situations. Sometimes it’s a detriment to losing a rhythm or losing a lead.”

Still, Casey feels these opportunities are invaluable to his young players.

“I’m putting the pressure on those guys to go into the game and to perform to win,” he said.
Quote:
Since coming to Toronto, there has been one thing in particular about Valanciunas’ game that has impressed [Rudy Gay].

“His toughness,” Gay said. “He’s really tough. He doesn’t back down from anyone. That’s something you can’t teach.”

Ross has been making a lot more mistakes than JV, but we gotta let him play through them. Our team just seems a little more dynamic when he's on the floor. And JV has obviously been awesome can't wait til next season when he's packed on a little bit of weight and had time to work with Olajuwan.

I hope these two stay with the raps for long term. Both have potential to do well. And when we're talking about strictly between these two... Their games fit very well together. Both also seem to be happy to be here.

you can give JV 48minutes a game, but if he continues to be ignored on offense, then what's the point of big minutes

1. Learn how to not get into foul trouble (probably his #1 priority)
2. Improve offensive movement, pick setting, getting offensive rebounds
3. Improve defense
4. Get into a rhythm, let the game come to him, get comfortable and confident on the floor (he's obviously got NBA talent, but confidence is a big part of it as well)

Minutes help a player get consistent. Look at Terrence Ross. You can't expect anything from him getting 5 minutes every other game, but when he gets big minutes, he actually makes some shots and contributes to games in meaningful ways.

Ross, Gay and DeRozan need to be on the court at the same time, all the time.
Those guys are your future.

KL/TR/DD/Gay/JV? That's a great small ball line-up, don't think they can maintain it through out the year....think we can trade Gay for Demarcus? KL/TR/DD/DC/JV gives me shivers

I dunno, 22 years old and is averaging 17ppg/10rpg/2.9apg/1.5spg/.7bpg in his 3rd year. Would take him in a heartbeat. As for headcase...meh....players mature, he just plays with a chip on his shoulder - nothing wrong with that.

I would to i guess but not for Rudy Gay. We'd be stuck with yet another stint of shitty wing play. No thanks, i'm so tired of making trades where all we do is play musical chairs, upgrade one position while weakening another. We can never seem to add talent without just creating another hole.

When I stated I would trade Gay for Cousins, was more a whimsical moment when replying.

TBT, JV will be a great center for the Raps imo, love his progression and his attitude - just doesn't back down from anyone. And is it me but he already looks a lot bigger since arriving, and I mean a lot. Kids going to be awesome.

If anyone, I would trade DD/2014 1st/whatever filler for a big time PF. Have KL/TR/Gay/???/JV.

Guess there are 2 ways to look at it imo...

1) IF the team up keeps DD/Gay together then upgrade the PF position with a player like Mullens, can rebound and shoot the 3 - yes his defense is subject at times but no where near Bargs... Still think the team needs a more offensively versatile PF than Amir if DD/Gay stay.

or

2) upgrade the SG, keep Amir as a starter and move Bargs to the second unit. Trade DD/2014 1st for Afflalo and go with KL/Afflalo/Gay/Amir/JV - I do like this option the most though
