Graphically it would have been cooler if it were analog Camo. Digital Sucks balls.

I dunno "Hook, Line and Sinker" sounds alot like baiting to me. Maybe just my ego getting in the way.

I ain't tryin to signal people out man, what you think of this is up to you. Theres nothing personal intended to anyone on my end.

I more or less + that for a general thing (regarding all the bitching about nonsense around here) than for this topic specifically.

you want to keep going with this?

the 'hook, line and sinker' reference was about taking things without asking questions, you know, the whole point i was making? i have been making an argument about propaganda and about the need to be able to question and not have that propaganda linked to duty and country. my point was to say, i have made my case and i don't expect you to just accept it, make yours.

My question is still - how do these jerseys honor the military? Through an empty gesture, because that is all I see, and that seems to be the case being made for it not being an issue. I find empty gestures, particularly around issues as fundamentally important as those surrounding a military under civilian control, to be insulting as hell at the very least, and potentially harmful to the way we operate as a civil society.

Truth is LX we don't know what their plan is. Perhaps they're will be some proceeds going toward vets or soldiers that need some extra medical attention, we don't know enough yet to know that it is "empty".

I don't know LX, I think that if they're declaring they're wearing the uniforms to support the armed forces, than that is what they're doing. I suppose they could put Magloire to work, slap some cam on him and send him overseas to make the gesture somewhat less empty.

On another note, I've probably browsed over 100 threads over the past decade where Trane and Benzo go back and forth with their left wing/right wing view points (sorry to simplify), and I've never seen the correspondence be a complete one way shollacking like this was. Benzo did not bring his A game.

In all reality the political statement of these jersey is pretty tepid. Its not as if we aren't complete saturated in this militaristic imagery. I don't think I have watched a sporting broadcast or game show that didn't have a pack marines or cadets setting in the audience. Fuck I think the new Jets jersey's are ten times worse then this. A little Camo is not a call to arms. And honoring vets isn't the worst thing to do in a post war world.

The jerseys in and of themselves are an empty gesture. They are worn. That is not honoring anything.

I was at a game a couple of years ago where military personnel were in attendance and honored at center court and with announcements throughout the game. Perhaps proceeds went towards vets as well. Turning the players into some sort of military representatives through what they wear is disingenuous and very empty. To me it has as much of a chance of disrespecting those few among us that have made huge sacrifices, as it does of honoring anything.

the only time this conversation would get both political and religious is if the pope condemns the Raptors for placing the word "canada" on bargnani's ass.

Who cares what they wear. I care who is wearing them.
We need a point guard desperately.

A pg and a few other pieces. And it's another reason this shit pisses me off. Can we just be done with the cheap gimmicks? Unless all the players get buzz cuts, this whole idea is a buzz kill.
