Arrow Raptors need to shape up, or Bosh is out

Quote:
"We're not playing basketball the way we need to," he said. "For some reason, we don't like to secure a lead and we don't like to win basketball games. That's the only thing I can think of. I mean, we come out here, we talk about it, we have a billion meetings. But we can talk all we want. Unless we do it, it really doesn't matter.

"Just do it. You know? Act like you care. You know, we need to do the things that win. We don't do the things that win."

On and on he railed. Golden State's bench was louder than Toronto's, even though Toronto is the one fighting for playoff seeding. This isn't playoff basketball. Other teams are probably looking at his team and mentally registering the win before it happens. We're not fighting, he said, at all.

"It ain't confidence. You just play. If you got feelings and stuff like that, this isn't the sport for you. Plain and simple. The real world isn't for you if you have too many feelings. If somebody's hurting your feelings, you go out there and you play basketball and you play tough because nobody cares about how you feel."

Make no mistake: This was directed at the Andrea Bargnanis and especially the Hedo Turkoglus of the world, and therefore at his general manager. Bryan Colangelo assembled this roster, and kept it intact at the trade deadline, and believed in it. And there is something essential missing from it: heart, guts, competitive will. This is a hollow team. And Bosh, for one, isn't exactly blaming Jay Triano.

"I'm glad I'm not the coaches," he said. "I wouldn't know what to do either. I don't know how many times you can change it, I don't know how many speeches you can give, I don't know how many lineup changes there can be. I don't know. The coaches can only do so much."

So to sum up: Too many of his teammates are too soft and too easily offended; the same crap keeps repeating itself; and it's not necessarily Triano's fault.

It's good to see Bosh calling out his guys, but since he does it in public, just shows to me he isn't doing it nearly as much as he should. DWade was interviewed a while back when his team was slumping and he just told reporters, he's done talking and its time for others to step up, which means he's constantly on them to perform at a higher level. I'm not sure how much Bosh expresses himself to his teammates about their level of play, but seems like he needs to do it more often. Although Bosh did use the term "we", it seemed like from the post game interview he put a lot of blame on the other players as opposed to himself. Thoughts?

The added analysis is new.

hollow team indeed. But of course in some quarters the players who refuse to compete or display any will are only that way because it's all about allowing only Bosh to succeed. We've just been watching some kind of bizarro version of a basketball team where winning is trumped by making one player look good. And if that's the case then Colangelo needs to be criticized that much more, and there's little hope of turning things around.

He didn't say his teammates were all soft. He implied that there were some that were a little too sensitive and we all know who he was referring to, and that would be the guy that doesn't ever need any excuses, because of course everything is structured simply for the benefit of Bosh. Actually that sounds like the mother of all excuses.

i could not give a rat ass Bosh resigning....

bosh is playing the best basketball of his career right?
- yes, not a question....

bosh is playing beside the most talented group right?
- yes, most would agree...

so with Bosh playing the best basketball if his life and having the best teammates around him, we are still floating around .500....i don't want to pay him 1/3 of the cap...
sign and trade him for shit load of draft picks and young players...we've seen how great of a lead Bosh is...

i am sick of having to watch a mediocre team year after year....

stock up on draft picks, get young and athletic and build for the future...

what would rather keep being a .500 team for the next 6 years or try to rebuild and get younger like Portland and Oklahoma City?

I know what you mean and I like your idea but we would just be losing. Also, what if thatdoesn't pan out. Not all teams aregood after they try to go young

we just finished rebuilding. although i'm not too happy with the team, i can't support any concept of rebuilding that doesn't even allow for a full year to pass with the rebuilt team. i just can't take that again, especially at the same time as the leafs and jays. some toronto team in the 3 major sports has to be trying to get to the playoffs or i'm going to get really fed up with the 'trade everyone for draft picks and prospects' philosophy.

i don't think it matters what 1st-team all-star we get. what good would that do if he's surrounded by guys who don't give it 110% every night? sure, let's part with Bosh. land someone who you think can pull-off 40/13 a night, then let's sign some average/below-average folks and see if that works.

it's about damn time he starts to shout-out. that's what he should've been doing all this time instead of keeping mum.

To use an old expression why throw good money after bad? Or in this case good time after bad?

The way I see it (hopefully I'm wrong) we are losing Bosh and have long term contracts signed to guys who can't get the job done. They are untradable assets and we are going to be finishing dead last for a while.

As such, we are starting a rebuild whether you like it or not

No need to try scratch and claw your way to say as a almost .500 team. Let it go. This round didn't pan out. If we do keep pushing for that almost .500 we're going to have to rebuild sooner or later.

Why not now?

setting aside the 'dead last' hyperbole, i'm not 100% convinced that cb is gone, and even if he is i'm still expecting an s&t because it increases cb's options of landing on a good team and it increases his paycheque. he likely won't ignore that.

so if we get a s&t we might get pieces that fit better together than we have now and/or we might be able to unload one of those long-term deals. to me, that's not really rebuilding, it's making a blockbuster trade and re-focusing. i'm fine with that. what i'm not fine with is selling off everyone for 60 cents on the dollar and tanking for the next 4 years. we've been doing that since vince decided to stop trying, and i just don't want to see it again.

+1

The fact that some here think we won't get much for Bosh signed long term if we do a S&T kills me. Especially if Lebron stays put (which i think he will, and if Wade stays in Miami). IMO if Bosh i involved in a S&T we'll get alot more then people here seem to think.

1) Hyperboles rule

2) I agree with what you have said but I have no faith that we will receive something that will get us where we need to be. I hope so, but I'm not counting on it.
