Default Raptors Looking For A PG

Quote:
The Toronto Raptors are trying to find a new home for Jose Calderon, but so far no proposed deal has been good enough and the point guard may still be with the team when training camp opens in late September.

Whether they keep Calderon or not, the Toronto Sun reports the Raptors will sign another point guard.

Free agent point guards who remain unsigned and might draw interest from Toronto include Keyon Dooling, John Lucas III, Nate Robinson, Randy Foye, Ronnie Price and Jonny Flynn.

to be honest, i hope they keep looking if they're looking to fill more than just the 3rd point spot.

Keyon Dooling would be great, as the 2nd or 3rd string.

I would like Lucas III or Flynn so that when Jose is gone one of them could be an adequate backup to Lowry. Uzoh needs to be a 3rd option at all cost. I just think they'll go with Uzoh and go from there.

i like dooling. he's a tough defensive minded point guard, but we'll need some offensive creativity and that's something he severely lacks.

i'd maybe take a flyer out on flynn, but being that he's on his 3rd or 4th private work-out with different teams shows that he might not be fully rehabbed, or even worse, not that talented.

lucas, i mentioned before in another thread, his lack of size is a little scary.

If we're looking at John Lucas and aren't afraid of his size, I'd also call up Earl Boykins and see if he's interested. No, I'm not kidding.

Just checking the FA point guard list...TJ Ford is an unrestricted free agent...

Only thing is that on a team like the Celtics Dooling knew his role and played it well. On the Raps he may become another Mike James.

I don't want anything in that list really, stick with Uzoh at this point. I agree that Dooling will definitely play differently for us then how well he played for the Celts unfortunately or I'd want him.

Not amnestying Jose, doesn't mean he wont be traded. He'll probably start the season on the roster, and there are a number of young PG's in the Summer that might be on the bubble and could become available to fill the 3rd PG slot and could be developed enough till Jose is traded and then could fill in at the back-up, and we could still stash Uzoh in the D-League for emergency.

Jose starting over Lowry? That doesn't make a lick of sense.

Lowry not starting would anger me more than JV not starting.

Giving up a lottery pick so he can backup Calderon makes no sense. Especially when we all know Calderon isn't in the long term plans (Colangelo today said Lowry is the PG of the future and gives him the keys to the team). This whole PG situation irks me to no end.

Colangelo saying that it's a luxury to have two starting PG's made me cringe. That's the third time he's said that in the last 6 years. If we have both going into the season this will be a distraction and imo it will hurt Ross more than anyone because Casey will have to give them both large minutes and play them both on the floor at the same time. I'm tired of this kind of Bullshit. This will not end well.

Do you expect him to come out and say Jose sucks and we want to trade him for talcum powder and a bit of leftover pizza?

I didn't say he would start ahead of Lowry. I said the season would begin with him on the roster.

Read. Comprehend.

We're not getting much for him either way, not alone at least.

I still cant believe how much talk there is of Lowrys starting spot being in jeopardy and Jose being close to his level of play. Maybe a few years ago, but not even close now.

Anyways, out of that list, I'd only think about Dooling. The rest make me want to vomit.

Isnt Delonte West still available too? I'd go after him. Delonte would be a perfect backup PG for this team, with the ability to play the 2 in smaller lineups. Him and Lowry on defence would be awesome.

Which is why i want Calderon gone. This is like a mediocre movie that i have to keep watching. This issue won't go away unless a move is made. Until then it'll be TJ vs Jose all over again even though Lowry is better.
