No, I'm trying to balance out salaries. However, Amir is a better fit on this team especially if Bargs remains the starting PF. ED has more value though.

I would stay away from Gasol if I were the Raptors.

His contract is way too large. Gasol is an AMAZING fit for a championship contender with another player as the primary option. At this stage in his career he will not be a good primary option.

Being that the Raptors are not competing for the chip anytime soon, Gasol makes no sense to acquire because of his massive salary that will handcuff us in the new CBA. If I am paying 18+ million for a player on a rebuilding team under this new CBA, that player better be on the rise and not on the decline.

why are people complaining about the huge contract?
he has 2 years left . Next year it will be a $20 mil expiring.

the length of a contract is more concerning than the amount usually

We (or at least I am) complaining because $20 million is a lot to be spending on a player that will only make this rebuilding team marginally better. You spend that money when you can be certain that Gasol will turn you into a championship contender, which is definitely not the case.

I would much rather spend that money on players who are up and coming. Hell, if you are so willing to spend money on *rentals*, let's just sign Eric Gordon to the max contract of 4 years- $58 million, which is what he is said to be looking for.

I'd have no problem with spending that kind of money on Eric Gordon, even if it was too high, because he IS on the rise as opposed to on a major decline. Not to mention he is a great talent. Plus we would fit much better into our LONG term plans as opposed to be a short term fix (which is what Gasol is).

Yeah, not to mention, Gasol is most effective at the 5 as opposed to the 4, contrary to popular belief.

A Gasol + JV front court wouldn't work.

Pau is still better than any big on our roster and any player on our roster.

Also, Eric Gordon - NOH will match any offer. He is also injury prone. However, he'd do well replacing DD.

pau is better but is on the decline part of his career
bargs is still on the rise and even if he doesn't rise that much higher as long as he can be consistent at his level and paired with the rest of the team improving i'm like that much more

I think you are missing the point.

Pau is better than all our bigs, yes. But him on our roster instead of Jose + Bargnani makes us only marginally better, and that too only in the short-term. In the long-term (3-5 years), we would be much better off with Bargnani + the Raptors would have hopefully have other pieces in place that could make them championship contenders.

If Pau's ddition made us championship contenders either now or in the future, I would be up for it. But it doesn't, so why give up key pieces like Bargnani for nothing?

P.S. The Lakers wouldn't make this deal either. As long as Kobe is on the team, the Lakers would only deal Gasol for players that will immediately make them a better team.

I understand the whole Pau is getting older part. There is just too much faith being put into an all offense player, (well, possibly 2 or 3 of them).

I feel there is much more left for Casey to extract from Bargnani's game.

With Gasol, what you see now is the best you can get. And what you see now won't be there when we finally are a top-tier team.

as good as Casey is, a what, 13 game stretch is a small sample. Bargs might be the Lin of PFs

if it is caldy + barg for gasol, i say NO way.

if it's Calderon + amir + a futur first, i say why not.

first we need to be sure, nash is coming or another top pg.

after that, we can always consider that trade (without barg include), but to be sure, we would not have capspace or asset to bring here a top SF after that, except if gasol is acquire to be trade quickly after that.
= the steal of the summer.

i think that discussion is more accurate if this is part of a 3 way deal.

Gasol will be a center everywhere he goes unless he is paired up with Howard, Bynum, Hibbert or Chandler. The guy is 7-1.

Bargnani has been in the league more than 13 games.
