Butch Carter.

Dont really know why, other tan turned the team from a 16 win season into a 45 win season in 2.5 years, and got them into the playoffs, and coached argueable the most exciting brand of basketball the Raptors have ever seen.

I'm going with Sam.

1. His quotes are great

2. His no bullshit attitude is great (see: Moiso, Jerome; Alston, Rafer; Carter, Vince)

3. He's actually improved since he first started

4. He's helped grow Chris Bosh and Jose Calderon into very good players

Bah.....

I would argue that it probably says just as much about Jose and Bosh's work ethic that they turned into good player in spite of Smitch.

Joey, Moon, Bargs, CV, none of them have improved under Mitchell........

I agree.I like Sam and he's become a very good communicator.I remember when he first started,he had crap teams but they played hard for him and were competetiveon most nights. For me it's him and Butch as my favs!

*Joey- Hard headed, has been given many chances. He sucks!
*Moon-Had a good rookie season. We'll see this season.
*Bargs-Very good Rookie season, second for Rookie of the year.Last season imo was due to lack of confidence which could be atributed to Sam somewhat.
*CV-second in rookie of the year, then traded.

3 out of 4 have had good seasons under Sam Mitchell. Not only that but CV's best year by far to date was his one season with Sam coaching him.

I didn't particularly like any of them, but Butch's team has played the most exciting ball by far.

that's hardly due to Sam though, you can argue that Moon has just as clueless at the end of the season just like in the beginning. Same for Bargs and for CV - even when they had good numbers, there was hardly any improvement in their defensive skills. And even Bosh and Jose, while they are great offensive players, are average at best on defense. And don't tell me that Bosh doesn't have the skills to be an amazing defender ...

Butch had AD, Oak, Willis, Dee Brown, Doug Christie, Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, Dell Curry and Mugsy Bogues. Of Course he looked good.

I'll take Smitch followed closely in second place by Lenny.

i will never understand why people like butch carter, especially when the often hated lenny wilkens got more out of our team with less.

moremilk - Bargs has improved defensively -bosh hasn't had the pleasure of fouling - Calderon doesn't have an ounce of defensive ability once he enters the half-court

defense is 50% teaching and 50% doing. we haven't had do'ers in a very long time. i have a very hard time believing that any fault should fall onto the shoulders of mitchell, but onto the shoulders of our general managers.

Butch let Vince get away with way too much, and then lost the locker room. He played too many games and lacked honesty. I'll never understand why he garnered so much respect.

And Lenny has to get some credit for being good at getting the team to peak at playoff time.

It's a good sign that the players with good work ethic are the ones that stick around. That doesn't happen everywhere.

Another vote for Smitch.

so far sam has been able to get away with it because we had no defense oriented players. The upcoming season this excuse will not hold. If our defense doesn't improve a lot, it has to be Sam's fault.

And Garnett was a heck of a defensive player in Minesotta, I guess he had the luxury of fouling ... I don't see Josh Smith, Dwight Howard or Tim Duncan fouling out every game either.

Young players can be molded - and all young players that played here are below average defenders on their position, especially considering that some of them (Bosh,Graham) are excelent athletes.
