1 year contracts lol.

He makes a lot of sense actually. He started dumb but his defense got really good by now.
You still shouldn't sign anyone at all and get a better pick. But if you do, this is a guy who can start and really fill a need and eventually transition into a great backup.

We currently have 9 healthy players and 1 that isn't going to be ready for at least a month. We need to add probably 5 players one way or another.

Well, three or four. I doubt 5.

I'd be down for a 1 year deal.

Guy has improved a lot in his years. Consistency especially.

He'd be a decent big body to have. Can definitely alter some shots around the net.

How much would he command though?

ValanciunasFanboy 12-07-2011 11:38 AM

I bet at least whatever midlevel Heat, Boston and Knicks can offer. And possibly Dallas if they don't keep Tyson. Kwame makes sense for all those teams.

When it comes to midlevel or below centers, this year is kind of empty. Sam Dalembert, Jeff Foster, Jason Collins, Chuck Hayes and Kwame.
Dalembert is likely to get more than midlevel. Foster will likely stay in Indy. Kwame > Collins. And I bet any of those teams would take Kwame over Chuck, even though Chuck is the better player in a vacuum.
Kwame should get decent money.

ValanciunasFanboy 12-07-2011 11:41 AM

1 year deal doesn't sound realistic though. Unless you offer your full remaining cap space for this year. You got what, 10 mil or so after minimum salary cap holds, IIRC. In that case, sure.

LKeet6 12-07-2011 11:58 AM

it's a sensible signing.

doesn't commit us to much, fills a need now and could remain while Val accommodates himself.

'trane 12-07-2011 12:14 PM

while we're at it, we should get darko as well. get ahold of all the underchieving top-2 pick big men.

LX 12-07-2011 12:47 PM

Why would he take a one year deal?

Shifty.py 12-07-2011 02:38 PM

why would anybody give him more than one year deal?

DDUnreal 12-07-2011 06:20 PM

Why does he still exist

ValanciunasFanboy 12-07-2011 06:25 PM

You guys really didn't watch much Bobcats I'm guessing. :p
Not that he's suddenly cool, but he's a good defender now. Teams watch games so they aren't signing these guys based on old Lakers or Wizards stories, that's why he'll get a long term deal. Besides, everyone has a lot of money to throw away in this offseason.

I'd prefer Hasheem Thabeet.

Yeah, VF is right. Kwame actually learned to play some pretty good post D when he was a Laker.

He has some value... not much.. but some.

Don't they need a full roster, even if it's D-leaguers, because of the compressed sched? Jose's hamstring would be shot by game 5.

3 would only give us 12 players able to dress for the next month, maybe 2 months depending on how long Kleiza takes. I wouldn't be surprised to see it be 5. With 2 of them probably at a minimum.
