It wasn't something that was really necessary, Alvin is a good guy an brought that heart and hustle fans in Toronto respect in players.. But when I see Alvin I think of the VC era.. Maybe its time he moved on

so this guy deserves a job because he is popular,

anybody apart of the previous regime has the right to be fired even if it is Alvin Williams

by the way how many guys has andrea Bargnani managed to get fired

Default FANGS!

Not to be insensitive, but Alvin, JYD, Mo Pete, Matt Bonner and Jamal Magloire should open a joint restaurant downtown where nostalgic Raptors fans can go in and see them while having a plate of poutine.

If you are one the best at the specific job you do for this organization, then welcome aboard. If it is determined that you are in a position as a "good look", then no.

They can be ambassadors in other ways. I like Amir Johnson but I don't need him to be my dentist or mechanic unless he is well qualified either.

They are building a machine.
TL basically said that he has "fangs", he expects all his people to have "fangs" and anyone who doesn't is "going to get run over".

There are ways to connect with fans if a guy wants to. It doesn't have to be team sanctioned.

I generally like the move as well, if it's a clean slate, let's make it so
Unless Alvin really needs the money, it's not like he did anything for the club in his time here.

It's a bit of a "Leafs" move to have AW on the payroll. In the NBA scheme of things, he was an average player that accomplished very little. To the Raptor fan base, he is all grit and hustle that we wish we saw more of. Darryl Sittler/Wendel Clark all over again.

I'm hoping they come out why he was let go. Did he not do his job? Or badly?

I was listening to the radio this morning and Jeff Blair was talking Kawasaki and how this city for some reason loves players like him. Somewhat mediocre, marginal players that either have a great story, endearing personality or have hustle. When you look at past fan favorites that had fandom here, once they move on they never do much elsewhere. Recently you have guys like Kawasaki, John McDonald, James Johnson.......He went on to say that it's a product of losing and latching onto whatever is there. Pretty obvious I guess, but so true.

It might be a good idea for the Raptors to stop running the Alvin Williams commercial on NBA TV. Pay attention to detail.

this applies to winning teams as well. it's the heart and soul/underdog story. as much as these players are loved, it didn't prevent them from being criticized once their roles were expanded past the reserves status. both alvin and jyd were probably the most loved Raptors ever, but there wasn't many games that went by that we were screaming for replacements.

You just have to look at a Birdman, or even a Green to see that it doesn't just apply to Toronto. Everyone falls in love with the guy that can be seen as being closer to our realm of abilities, and who succeeds all the same. On losing teams those kinds of guys can raise interest above where it should be, but the love is still there as a means of connecting more personally to winning teams.
