Word at the Orlando Summer League is the Toronto Raptors have offered Dwight Buycks their backup point guard job. Buycks has accepted.

Tank?

Buycks was in play as the potential third point guard with the Thunder. He now has the opportunity to backup Kyle Lowry in Toronto.
Currently averaging 10 PPG & 6 APG on 48% FG with OKC in the summer league.

The only things that make me hold out hope for a tank are the backup point guard selections. Means we are a Lowry trade away from an easy tank job even if we have to wait to move Gay. A Lowry injury would be a convenient "we aren't tanking but we're losing a lot" situation.

This is good news.

Apparently he is a shooter.

He hits the game-winning shot for OKC in this video from a couple days ago in Vegas.

Yeah, good shooter, .350 from deep in the D-League last year on 2.5 attempts per game. Not much of a point man though, his AST/TO ratio was about 1.25, and his AST% was 19%.

Really tired of these tanks talks, there is no indication of it. There are teams that are far ahead of us when it comes to tanking, heck even the Lakers are tanking

With Kobe, Gasol, and Nash?

If they can be considered for a tank so can we.

He looks interesting, and not likely just a random reach. The Bucks, and so presumably Weltman, had their eyes on him. He played well in France, and played very well in summer league. He was looking to play for Miami in Vegas. Maybe it turns out that we have two third stringers vying for the backup role. That's not much different from last season. The two guys this season look to have a great work ethic and might really surprise. And I would expect Lowry to play pretty good minutes if he can stay healthy.

If we are looking at sets of eyes in the front office that can make a difference, then we might be pleasantly surprised.

Nobody heard of Reggie Jackson last year, and now he is the best back-up point guard in the NBA. You can never go wrong with the best talent evaluators in the NBA. Remember when San Antonio was offering Tony Parker for Jonas during the 2011 nba draft. If the Thunder was considering him as the third back-up point, he must be good. Reggie Jackson was third point guard last year behind Westbrook and Maynor for the Thunder at the start of the season.

Buycks has had pretty rough assist stats in both the D-League and the French league he played in last year, but he's done very well in Summer League, averaging 6 assists per game. Wonder if the Raps can get him on their SL roster still?

Kobe will miss at least a couple months and Nash is 53 years old

Nash/Blake/Farmar
Kobe/Meeks
Young/Douglas-Roberts
Hill/Kelly
Gasol/Kaman/Sacre

you really think that team is making the playoffs in the West? they could barely make it with MWP and Dwight

Well not really. Both Lucas and Telfair were decent second string PG's once. These new guys haven't proven anything and are Dleague level players right now.

I must say I'm a bit disappointed by all this...

He plays like Jrue Holiday in his highlights in terms of his dribble drive moves and even his jumper. Another low risk, potentially decent reward type of signing. Give the kid a shot and see how he does.

Whether they make the playoffs or not is irrelevant.

What I was saying is that team as currently assembled is too good to tank..

Distribution is what he has had to work on the most. This is where we see if people have a good sense of whether that work has paid off.

There's also a chance they aren't looking for a great deal of assists. Maybe they look for 10-12 minutes where he puts a lot of pressure on opposing defenses on his own, and hopefully makes more plays for others than Lucas did.

So you'd rather see washed up veterans with no chance of improving, play over young guys with potential in a transition year for us. Good to know, coach Casey.

They'll finish in the bottom 10 and be in the lottery. The league will take care of the rest.
