Nope. Only way this works is if Diaw is NOT bought out. LA absorbs his current contract into the TPE, then flips him and 1 or more draft picks to TO for Jose.

And... The last few posts have been discussing just this idea.

Jose's gotta be worth more than a late 1st round pick.... That would seem like a no-brainer deal for the Lakers.

ya dan, you know me, I dont get into specifics and the legal side..hahaha but you get the gist, grab Diaw, and flip him for calderon.

would be a good play for LA

it's not about worth though, it's about offers
if you absolutely want to trade jose (for cap space this summer for example), you will have to take the best offer, regardless if it's fair or not.

I'm afraid the best offer won't be better than a late first rounder, because like I said before, who needs a guy like jose with all the very good pgs. Other than a bunch of old, good but not great veteran teams like the lakers or dallas or orlando.

as for diaw, I'm guessing you guys are talking about the maple leafs, they could use a big body like diaw in the goal to make sure it's physically impossible to score goals against them Wonder how good of a goalie would shaq have been.

That was my long-ago-conceived plan for a perfect goalie: get the tallest, largest sumo wrestler, pad him appropriately and lay him across the net on his side, with his back to the shots!

Blah. What kind of game does Diaw have left? Probably next to nothing.

If it comes down to that I'd rather wait and look to deal him next season.

Its not about diaw, its about the pick and eventually clearing the space.... like keeping calderon, then getting the space when he comes off the book, only, you get a first round pick.

Aren't these late first rounders usually available for cash come draft time?

Used to be, but the last few years teams have been very stingy with them, and have been asking that sort of price for early and even some mid-to-late second rounders.

Also, it should be noted that teams can no longer send 3 million per transaction - the limit is now applied for the full year, and stays at 3 million, so we'll likely see less and less of those sorts of pick "purchases."

Also, receiving cash in a deal does not allow you to send out more cash - 3 million is the max on outgoing cash for the year, regardless of incoming cash.

If you're the SA Spurs.....

Sorry bro... just don't have much faith. And I still think that Jose would be pretty valuable next season with Val coming in.
