Default Raptors Fear Premature Retirement For Ford

Things aren't looking good right now fellas. It would totally stink if he had too, but there's more to life outside of basketball and his quality of life is way more important than anything else.

Ford, who missed the entire 2004-05 NBA season after undergoing neck surgery, has already suffered two related arm 'stingers' since last year's playoffs, and a head injury after a fall on Dec. 11 in Atlanta, and has not returned to action since.

Ford had an appointment with specialist, Dr. Patrick O'Leary in New York, his second consultation this week.

"We are consulting with a number of specialists to get as much information as possible regarding T.J.'s condition. Once enough information is compiled, we will chart a course for his return to basketball activity," Raptors president and GM Bryan Colangelo said yesterday.

The fear within the organization is that Ford's problems may result in his premature retirement from the NBA.

BC will bring Roko Ukic next season if TJ is done for good, having him as backup to Jose might not be half bad.

TJ needs to think about walking upright unaided for the rest of his life. i think he should walk away while he still can. no question. he'll be missed.

That Memphis trade rumor is sounding better each day that Ford misses. Imagine the spaniard generals running the court.

well, it'll be a tragic end to a career if this comes true.

I just want to know what the "official" diagnosis was after the Atlanta injury. Did it actually cause damage to his nervous system? or was it just a bad stinger that will return him to the state of health he had at the beginning of the year.

I'd have to assume this one injury was pretty bad and caused some extensive damage because retirement was NEVER an issue - even when he suffered a stinger earlier this year and last year.

ah shit. get well TJ. do what you gotta do, man.

As a big TJ fan, this is sad to hear, but at the same time, it's also great to see that if he decides to walk away, he will be able to do just that: walk away. The last thing you want to see is a guy going off in a stretcher, never able to walk again.

Take your money, walk away from playing, but don't walk away from the game. Get into coaching right away and work your way back to the NBA.

I hope this doesn't happen...we're a better team with TJ leading it. He's a solid person and great player that is no where near his ceiling. This would be sad.
