Raptors Fans Have not been This upset Since....

...The Raps drafted Damon Stoudamire

Gurk 06-24-2011 11:14 AM

Who did everyone want the Raps to draft that year?

Ed O'Bannon.....yep Ed O'Bannon

Someguy again 06-24-2011 11:21 AM

one year from now we should make the "i told you so" thread

Gurk 06-24-2011 11:22 AM

Haha, hopefully we get lucky again.

jj33 06-24-2011 11:22 AM

Raptors getting a franchise next year draft! I am cool with the pick, I calmed down!

Don Vito 06-24-2011 11:22 AM

I am happy with this pick, he is the BPA and addresses this teams' needs.

that was actually what i thought about after going through some of the posts yesterday.

I can remember the toronto geniuses booing the kid as he got picked by the home team of all teams.

Only difference was back then we could have used the excuse that we were an unknowledgable fanbase given the team's infancy.

Wiseguy 06-24-2011 12:38 PM

quick question- when everyone was booing damon because they wanted to draft ed o'bannon, was this actual basketball fans with knowledge of the game, or was this just a case of them having heard of ed o'bannon due to his ncaa run, and simply thinking that they should pick him for that? I know his career went no where, but was that due to his injuries or just a lack of talent?

As per usual, Benzo sums it up nicely in one sentence.

Why? He still will not have played an NBA game.

dfunkie1 06-24-2011 12:59 PM

same can be said for knight, walker and leonard. at least he'll be playing against legit competition while these dudes get fat and lazy.

Yeah. It could be 2 years before he even starts a game in the NBA.

1 - He's very young.

2 - The Raps don't know 100% for sure that he'll be in North America next year, nor do they know for sure if there will be an NBA season.

Patience is required.

I'll jumping on this right now. I'm happy we drafted him.

Superjudge 06-24-2011 01:08 PM

Think of it this way.
He was rated top 3, other teams were afraid of his massive buyout, Minny and cleveland have zero cash and couldnt afford it. Colangelo likes it, he says, we'll take him, we suck already anyhow and wont be good right away, and if there's a lock out, he plays, develops and we avoid the buyout.

Hmm...

I just don't see why so many people don't like this pick. Is it because he's white? From Lithuania?

Exactly. If there's a lockout, then no worries at all!
He'll get to play, Raps can avoid the buyout, it's a win-win.
It'll be exciting to have Jonas and next year's rookie both debut together.

Maybe. And...

lack of patience.

lack of name recognition.

lack of knowledge about his game, which leads to erroneous assumptions about this being another "soft euro"

I think that most have calmed down now and are ok with it by now. How many still don't like it?

dfunkie1 06-24-2011 01:14 PM

pretty sure he'll have to be bought-out regardless of the lock-out. from what i understand, he has a three year contract and the buy-out would have him here for 2012. it's all speculation, though.
