09-10 Weems played like he had something to prove.

10-11 His attitude changed. His head got a little to big.

Totally agree with you.

He lost his aggressiveness. Instead of looking to drive, he looked for shots. He started off the season well, but then started fading away. I think one of the turning points of the season for Weems is when he hit that game winner vs. Orlando. I think after that game he started becoming more of a jump shooter and ignored what got him as far as he did.

10-11 he played a position he shouldn't have, got hurt, then came back started playing better and got benched for JJ.

I thought Weems played the 3 in 09-10? I think he should be fine playing both position though. Has good body and quickness.

When we only expected defence from him, he was good. But than, he wanted to score! You can be in the league for 12 years if you play tough D and can hit an occasional 3!

I won't miss Wright at all. If you ask me he is a typical little talent, all hustle guy who really isn't good enough. While the effort is nice, you have to back it up with some talent which i'm afraid is lacking. I dare say Sonny has more to offer than Wright.

You guys know what the worst thing to ever happen to Sonny was right? Those stupid banners outside of the Arena with his face on it. Guy goes from D league to fucking billboards? I know i harp on it a lot, but that marketing employee needs to get fired if he/she hasn't been already.

sonny needs to be our tony allen
in the 09/10 season, i thought sonny had a good role, and most of the season played better than demar.

Good point, but us fans need to share some of the blame. By the end of Sonny's first season, he was considered one of the "cool guys" by being in a group with DeMar and Amir. The fans bought his personality, and started all these nicknames, wearing jerseys and putting signs up at the ACC.

Smart marketing idea by the team actually. The consumers wanted Sonny, they gave them Sonny on the boards.

Toronto... where D League stars are treated like rock stars
this will be a good pitch to D League free agents... we could grab the whole D League all star team

I remember going to a game the year after we made the playoffs, the year we started sucking.

Everybody danced during warmups. Every time somebody shot a fadeaway they were doing a little shimmy, shake their ass for a split second, then a fadeaway. It was disgusting. Everybody was acting cool. That's what Sonny reminded me of last year, somebody acting cool.

It's seriously hard to play in Toronto because shitty players get attention they never received for playing so shitty and it just makes them shittier.

great use of the word shit

fun can be had and all... but putting some of those dance moves to use by rotating on defense would also be nice

shitty players get attention in toronto by making a flashy dunk.... toronto fans love that. but what more can you expect from a raptor fan? a typical raptor fan associates flash with talent. pretty sad really

Weems does have talent. When he's actually playing his position (SG) he can shut people down but Toronto loves to use people out of position. On top of that he's great at getting to the basket and finishing and his jumpshooting is improving. I can't believe how much people harp on Weems for bad D when he's a billion times better than Demar who most people here think is going to a star.

Not really true at all. How many "flashy" dunks did Reggie Evans have all season and he was a fan favourite. IMO Toronto fans love the players who work hard and give 100% effort. And 09-10 Sonny did just that, that is why he was liked but like was said above in 10-11 he changed from a hustle player to a jumpshooter and a lot of fans including me stopped liking him.

As for Demar I think he deserves all the praise he gets.

-------------------------First Year---------------------Second Year
Kobe Bryant-------- 7.6 ppg on 41.7% -------------15.4 ppg on 42.8%
Demar Derozan---- 8.6 ppg on 49.8%--------------17.2 ppg on 46.7 %

Im not saying hes the next kobe or anything, just trying to put into perspective how much he actually improved.

No. Hes a fan favourite because he works his ass of on the court. Nothing he does has anything flashy about it and thats why Raptor fans love him, because he isn't about the flashiness, but about the hard work.(the opposite of what you originally said)

I didnít get a chance to ask Sonny about his intentions when he was hanging around (and since Jose didnít send the jet for me, I canít ask him over in Spain) but I know he loves it here and would like to come back.

Not sure just how mutual that feeling is, think itíll depend largely on how they might be able to upgrade the small forward spot in free agency or some trade and what the financial implications are.

I wouldnít, if I were you, go out and buy a Weems jersey just yet.

Nor should you (and I know one guy this will crush) rush out and get yourself a Julian Wright or Joey Dorsey souvenir.

The word is they wonít likely make qualifying offers to either of them by todayís deadline and theyíll become unrestricted free agents whenever the CBA stuff gets settled.
