Raptors Expected to Pursue Landry

Raptors Expected To Pursue Carl Landry - RealGM Wiretap

Saw this on my twitter from RealGM. I'd say picking him up wouldn't be bad. Are there other people we should be going after? Yes, but getting him would be a pretty reasonable option among others. The guy plays like Amir and getting him would add another big that can play off the bench. We do need another PF coming off the bench or starting that is a veteran.

The Raptors are looking for a veteran power forward and could make a run at Golden State's Carl Landry if he opts out of his deal this summer, a source told Yahoo! Sports.
This is the actual source. He states that they COULD pursue him.

ohboi...an undersize PF...I guess this shows what type of players we could realistically attract on free agency! Bye Bye Millsap...Bye Bye Jefferson...Bye Bye West.

Honestly, I'd rather make a run for Hickson...they're making the same $ this season...and pretty much offers the same thing to the table...or even tiago splitter!

I wasn't saying we should get him and of course I disagree with the post and it shouldn't be expected of us to get him.

Millsap and Jefferson would be a long shot imo. Spurs are high on Splitter so doubt he's available. I like Hickson's game since he was with the Cavs so I wouldn't mind him as well

I don't understand how we have any money to go after anyone good. MLE won't cover any of those guys. Guys like Jefferson, Millsap, West are looking for 10 mill+. We don't even have enough for Hickson. Landry is possible, but he won't be a big difference maker next year.

I have a feeling that we'll sign a bigger FA than you would think. Isn't the tax supposed to go up around 80mil?

Not likely. Did you not read the last conversation about David West? Even in the case that the cap goes up a lot, it would take a couple miracles to get the Raps far enough under the cap to be able to overpay for a free agent.

I've always found landry to be a good player with a lot of hustle for an undersized guy, but I find he plays for a lot of teams that are never that successful when it comes to Wins

I think the team will go after a bigger name FA as well but probably through a S&T....some options when you open that door.

landry and T Young would be some bonus off the bench, or even as starter and Amir coming of the bench.
they are all three same type of player. hustler. that's a good thing to get that kind of player, but i'm concern that we will not have a real starting 4.
don't get me wrong, i love Amir, but to me he is way better coming off the bench, because he isn't that consitant game after game.
but yeah adding another fighter in front will be a real improvment over barg, for sure.

Last fall, revenue was projected to increase by as much as 20%. The problem is, some bloggers started talking about the salary cap going up based on those projections without looking at Coon's appendix which highlights the changes in the BRI formula. Even I fucked up by not thoroughly checking Coon first, after the rumours/Stern's press release were brought to my attention. It's always best to check Coon (if you can and know how) rather than listen to some random blogger.

So, yeah, even if the revenue projections come true, some of that will be off-set by the new formula. That's what the rumours weren't factoring in. The cap and luxury tax will probably go up, but not by as much as some started speculating last Novemeber when Stern made his revenue projections.

Landry is a very solid player and plays his role well, but with the team as its currently constructed, if we signed him, we'd essentially be the Bucks for the next 3 years, being the 8th seed and getting destroyed in the 1st round. Its a middling move.

Teams that are on the brink of becoming contenders or contenders already should be signing a guy like Landry to help bolster their bench, not us.

yep. no doubt Landry is a solid player. but you can add this to the list of moves BC makes to keep us on the treadmill if it does happen.

So he shouldn't look to add solid veteran players to bolster the bench?

Interesting theory.
