Raptor's Draft Ranking of Players

Chad Ford of ESPN has Derrick Williams as No. 2 on Rap's draft board. With log jam at the 4, do the Raps think they can convert Derrick Williams at small foward. Or the Raps just following the theory "Draft the Best Player Available."

Andrea (Toronto)

If the Raps got the number one pick would they choose Barnes or Irving?

Chad Ford (1:45 PM)

I have them taking Irving. I think that one is set in stone. I actually think Derrick Williams might be next on their board, then Barnes.

Good, i think he has higher upside than Barnes, Williams himself said he is going to mainly be a SF in the NBA so im sure he'll be devoting his summer to getting for that

thought 04-13-2011 03:25 PM

thought barnes was going back to school?

IGetAir 04-13-2011 03:31 PM

I think Barnes hasn't said if he's declaring or not yet, so they're counting him in just for the sake of argument.

I definitely think we'd take Irving first for sure, and hope we do get that pick.
If not, I'm not mad at either Williams or Barnes.

Anyone hear about who Cleveland is more interested in? Say they get #1, I've heard they're very interested in Williams.

jeffb 04-13-2011 04:01 PM

IMO i would want Irving, Williams then Barnes OR Walker? As long as we don't drope we'll get a pretty good to good player.

Superjudge 04-13-2011 04:11 PM

NBADRAFT.net has Toronto taking some Vesely kid.

Honestly?

Blaze 04-13-2011 04:11 PM

I think williams will be a good player if he learns to play sf, if he plays pf, I don't think so, just my opinion. Either way we should definately draft irving first, if he isn't there bayless is good enough at the one, and we draft a sf or a c (preferably sf cause c rookies are slow to develope and theres no good ones in this draft).

RAPMAN 04-13-2011 04:18 PM

William's offense will always be there. The only question is can he guard the SF position. Joey Graham played power forward in college, and is a mediocre defender in the NBA. The same can be said of Beasley defending the 3 poistion. The only player I can think of recently who made the transition (PF to SF) well on a defensive standpoint is Jared Dudley.

Irving, Willaim, Barnes and 4th... Valanciunas!

Admiral 04-13-2011 05:35 PM

if we truly believe demar is our "guy" then barnes isn't near the top on our list
it should be a lock that we want a PG and that's irving

I doubt anyone wants Demar to be our "guy" because even though he can be a potential all-star, I don't see him ever being a superstar or second tear superstar, not someone who can lead a team.

well even if he isn't going to be a superstar, he is 1 of our core players for the future, and james johnson is also going to be a keeper for us, so SG and SF are already more or less filled with decent talent
the clear need is PG first

if we end up picking third like we're slated to, it would be dumb not to pick Barnes (who i think will still be there at 3) simply because DeMar is our "guy" of the future. He's a good player and he's shown he has the potential to maybe be a "guy" at some point, but he's not there yet, and we're not good enough to be passing on the BPA.

Sources say that they'll draft Williams since they need someone at the 3 and that they need another superstar at the 3 like LBJ. Since they have the number 1 and 7 or 8th pick, they'll draft Williams at 1 and then either Walker, Fredette, or Knight with their second 1st round pick

My point was if we can't get Irving it doesn't mean we pass on barnes just because we have Demar, besides I think Barnes would play 3 anyway.

6th is the lowest, but there's only a 4% chance that the Raps fall that low.

so there's a good possibility with our luck
hopefully Williams and Barnes stay in the draft so at least the top 6 look good
