Raptors Raptors Draft grades

All over the map....

Toronto Raptors: C-
On one hand, Valanciunas might be one of the best players in this draft. But the eroding fan base was probably ready for a less risky pick, like Brandon Knight

Grading the 2011 NBA Draft: Wizards, Pacers, Mavs, Nuggets lead class - NBA - Sporting News

--------

Grade: A.

Valanciunas is probably the best center on the board, and maybe the best prospect. He's only 19 and it'll take a lot of development and some luck, but he has the tools to be a great NBA center........................But patience is generally rewarded in the NBA, and it should be here. It would have been a lot easier to pick a more instant-impact player like Kemba Walker; picking the kid you literally have to wait on take resolve.

NBA Draft Grades 2011: Toronto Raptors Press Pause With Jonas Valanciunas - SBNation.com

---------

Toronto Raptors: C+

The Raptors gambled a bit by going with Jonas Valanciunas at #5. The issue as to whether he can come over right away has been widely reported, but the risk goes beyond that factor. Valanciunas has been playing at a high level in Europe, but it is a mixed record.

2011 NBA Draft Grades | NBADraft.net

----------

Toronto Raptors B-

The Raptors are going to have to decide which combination of Valanciunas, Ed Davis, and Andrea Bargnani they are going to go with heading into the future.

2011 NBA Draft Grades: Grading out the Performances of All 30 Teams | Bleacher Report

--------

Grade: B

Few have banged the Valanciunas drum harder than I have in the lead up to this draft. I still think Cleveland made a mistake in not selecting him fourth overall, and despite his skinny frame I still believe he'll be a stud moving forward. I don't consider him a Joel Przybilla(notes)-type, he's way better than that, but I also know that a healthy and in-prime Joel Przybilla was better than a whole lot of this lottery. So obviously picking Valanciunas is a can't miss, in my eyes, both in a vacuum and in the context of this draft.

Nah Jonas playing Pf when he come to NBA. NBA aint euroleague. Hes gonna get destroyed if he plays Center. Most likely he will play pf, and Bargnani at center.

Watever hes gonna get wrecked badly. hes too small to play C. In the Euroleague theres no size compared to NBA, so oviously hes gonna play C.

To small? Well for starters he is 7 feet. You do realize you can train and get bigger right? Dwight Howard wasn't a big monster when he entered the NBA, he trained.

One of the main weaknesses with Jonas coming into this Draft was that he "Struggled with stronger players". Thats in the EUROLEAGUE! theyre are much stronger guys in the NBA. He might be good, but hes gonna struggle a lot.

Well I guess its a good thing he isn't coming into the NBA tomorrow. He has a year in Europe to get stronger. He said himself that adding mass is a top priority, as well as improving his low post game. Everyone knows he needs to get stronger, Casey even said in an interview that he needs to get stronger. This shouldn't be an issue, working with the Lithuanian professional team I'm sure hes in good hands.

I still fear that hes not going to be that great of a player. Great European players IMO are overrated, because even though they perform well in Europe, they still cant translate that in the NBA because of the differences in level of competition. Yet so many people think its the same and when they see talent there, its the same as seeing talent here. Its for this reason so many people are excited about drafting European players, even thought like 2/3 of them end up being busts.

I could actually see him becoming a good defender, he's mobile and long, he needs to do is getting bigger, which isn't difficult. And in no way is he a PF, he barely has any PF skills...

Lmfao name at least 10 succesful European players that currently still play in the NBA. Most of them arent that good and are overrated and others just end up going back to europe.
I honestly cant think of any with the exception of Dirk Nowitzki and Tony Parker.

If you were 19 years old playing against grown men you'd struggle against stronger players too...
