Bleacher Report: Raps considering shutting down Gay for rest of season

As the title suggests, there is an article on Bleacher Report today by Jesse Dorsey that suggests that the Raps may consider sitting Gay for the remainder of the season.

Does this have any legs? Are there any more reliable sources for this to anyone's knowledge?

Thanks.

The article posts a tweet from Cathal Kelly regarding Casey suggesting they I'll think about doing so. That would appear to be the basis for this article containing basically redundant information at best. The way the author sneaks in the idea of suspicions being fuelled is just dumb. There is nothing to suspect. The coach outright said it will be something that gets discussed.

IS THAT JOEY DORSEY'S BROTHER? CAN HE PLAY!?

And yeah they should shut down Amir, Lowry, and Rudy to let them get healthy. Then just give Ross, JV, and Acy a shit ton of minutes. I'm not kidding, I'd prolly rather watch that.

Great idea, but it's not gonna happen...

conditioning

Why should he play if he is not healthy now? Other than fan frustration.

Except for Demar and Fields, who should focus on their handles and putting up 500 shots a day......the rookies are scrawny, Lowry and Bargnani could be leaner (so we can trade Bargs, of course), Gay also has to be physically ready to lead and Kleiza should get healthy to either be a role player with an outside shot or expiring trade fodder

MBailey85 03-24-2013 03:10 PM

It's not a bad idea and they probably should. Give more time to Ross(with DeRozan at the 3). Quincy Acy should be called up as well and playing.

Don Vito 03-24-2013 03:51 PM

This just means Anderson will play 40 minutes per game. Ross will continue to sit on the bench.

With Rudy Gay continuing to deal with back issues, the Toronto Raptors will soon discuss whether or not to shut down the forward for the rest of the season.

“It depends on how he responds,” Casey said to the question of shutting Gay down. “(T)hat’s something that will be talked about sooner rather than later.”

Gay missed the Raptors' loss to the New York Knicks on Saturday, instead staying in Toronto for treatment on his back.

Gay was traded by the Memphis Grizzlies to the Raptors in late January, but he has shot just 40.2 percent from the field since the deal and the Raptors have fallen far out of the playoff chase.
I'm all for this....besides Casey thinks Alan Anderson if the franchise anyway so it doesn't matter.

Who cares, season is over, shut em all down and play a bunch of d-leaguers, and see if we can find another alan anderson!!

jrob23 03-24-2013 06:05 PM

season is lost might as well shut him down and allow him to completely heal, and give Ross more minutes.

Casey thinks its better to play small like the other team instead of taking advantage of your team's size and playing big.

Tomas 03-24-2013 07:00 PM

Good news. Now AA won't have to share touches with anyone.

Not like the dude was any good anyway. He doesn't make a difference that much

last game without Gay we managed to also no start Amir?! I don't even know how that's possible.

Without Gay the starting 5 should be Lowry, Ross, DD, Amir, JV

AA should not see the floor, even if they think he can "shoot them back into a game", why do we even care about winning a game that way anymore?
let Ross play huge minutes and give some to Fields if you think he's supposed to be part of the group in the near future

would you want amir defending carmelo, or chasing shumpert on the perimeter?
Unless you have a dominant offensive center who can punish people for going small, or a mobile 4 like KG who can defend carmelo, you have no choice when playing the Knicks but to go small. Let's be realistic here ...

Mike Ganter: That talk about shutting down Rudy Gay was a little premature. Gay says he has no plans to be shut down unless doctors tell him he can't go.
I think I prefer him shut down.
