Post Raptors Daily Dish - 15.01.10

Bosh in Big Apple could be circus

Quote:

Every word uttered by Chris Bosh will be duly noted, in some cases misinterpreted to suit some agenda.
As the microphones and notepads eagerly await Bosh in the Big Apple, the Raptors' franchise player knows that his visit to Gotham today has the potential to turn into a circus.
And it has nothing to do with the three-ring variety that gets played out at Madison Square Garden.
Basketball's mecca brings out the very best in most NBA players because of the spotlight that can be generated only in the sport's biggest market.
But there's a downside to being the centre of attention, real or contrived.
"Is anybody ready for the New York media?'' Bosh responded at the conclusion of yesterday's practice when asked if he was ready for the onslaught.

Dunk dream is a step closer

Quote:
Despite his rookie status, DeRozan, who has been able to dunk since the sixth grade, goes into this competition with a lot of confidence. He already is on record as saying he expects to win the NBA slam-dunk contest.
"I don't care if (Michael )Jordan is in it," DeRozan said.
"Ever since I was in the eighth or ninth grade, every dunk contest I did, I never lose," he said last night. "In the ninth grade, I was in one with Mike Beasley and Gerald Henderson and won. I always feel confident. I like pulling things off."
DeRozan isn't that far removed from his most recent Slam Dunk contest, at the 2008 McDonald's high-school all-America game, which he won with perfect scores on both his dunks in the final, impressing no less an authority than Julius Erving, the father of the move, who was a celebrity judge.
DeRozan knows there is no re-inventing the wheel when it comes to dunking.
"I've got a few things up my sleeve," he said. "I'll try to be a little creative. I just want to add a little flair."

Feschuk: Self control averts digital damage

Quote:
He was, as he almost always is, accompanied by DeMar DeRozan, the Toronto rookie who is Weems's best friend on the team. While some pro athletes might have sent a gopher to fetch the merchandise, Weems, 23, and DeRozan, 20, were game for a shopping trip. And far from going incognito, DeRozan actually invited plugged-in fans to join the players at the Eaton Centre, posting a Twitter message that outlined their impromptu plan to hand out free tickets to upcoming home games at a popular electronics retailer.
Not surprisingly, given that DeRozan has more than 22,000 followers on the micro-blogging site, the message was received en masse.
"It was crazy in there. Oh man, it was crazy," said Weems.
Crazy in a bad way?
"Oh, no. About a hundred people, or maybe more, but it didn't bother me at all. I love giving back to the fans," said Weems. "Take pictures, sign autographs, whatever I can do."

Brash Raptor eyes dunk crown

Quote:
There is no lack of self-confidence in DeMar DeRozan.
Given an opportunity to earn himself a spot in the dunk contest as part of the NBA's all-star weekend festivities, the Raptors rookie guard plans to draw on past experience.
And win.
Not just a dunk-off to get into the contest, but the whole thing.

Raptors Blog by Doug Smith

Quote:
As far as I can tell, an entire day went by yesterday without one breathless report suggesting this team or that is interested in Chris Bosh.
Thank heaven for small mercies.
But you know itís coming. This morning, no doubt.
I will say this for Chris, though.
For all the crap thatís been swirling around, about this summerís free agency mainly but about trade chatter as well, heís handled it like a true professional and far, far, far better than, say, the guy in Cleveland or the fellow down in Miami.
Heís been steadfast in his public belief that itís not something he thinks about, heís never once tweaked the fans here by suggesting some other city is Nirvana, he hasnít once worn a silly shoe with I (Heart) Dallas on it or anything. He hasnít been openly suggesting heís open to suggestions.
Heís been polite when asked but consistent.
And guys like me appreciate that.
Iíll say what Iíve said since, oh, the start of last season: I truly and honestly believe heís not sure what he wants to do but I also truly and honestly feel thereís a far better chance heís a Raptor next fall than many others do.
Itíll be interesting to see how it plays out in the summer but thatís when it has to play out and the way heís handled it so far has been first-class.

Demar DeRozan to compete in Dunk-In competition

Quote:

DeRozan and Gordon will get two dunks each during halftime of the rookie challenge on Friday, Feb. 12. The winner, chosen by votes on NBA.com and through text messaging, will claim a spot in the marquee event Saturday night, to be held this year in Dallas.

DeRozan, Gordon vie for 4th spot in dunk contest

Quote:
DeMar DeRozan of the Toronto Raptors and Eric Gordon of the Los Angeles Clippers will compete in the NBA All-Star Dunk-In competition to determine the fourth spot in the All-Star slam dunk contest.
The NBA announced the participants Thursday after revealing the framework of the Dunk-In contest one day earlier.
DeRozan and Gordon will get two dunks each during halftime of the rookie challenge on Friday, Feb. 12. The winner, chosen by votes on NBA.com and through text messaging, will claim a spot in the marquee event of All-Star Saturday night, to be held this year in Dallas.
Chris Bosh likes Madison Square Garden ó draw your own conclusions

Quote:
Clear the back page of the New York Post: Chris Bosh loves Madison Square Garden. He hearts it, if you will.

"I like the Garden. The Garden has always been a fantastic place for me to play," Bosh said. "It was sort of the first big stage I ever played on in the McDonald's [all-star] game when I was in high school. I've been there every year since then. It's kind of special to me. A lot of greats have played there. It's just one of those special courts."

A clarification: Bosh was not talking about making MSG his home come this summer's free agency (hey, it is finally 2010 ó how about that). Instead, he was speaking of the arena his current team, the Toronto Raptors, will play in on Friday.

And with Bosh descending on the self-proclaimed world's most famous arena, the local media will certainly descend on him with plenty of questions regarding July 1.

Turkoglu holds key to own success

Quote:
Hedo Turkoglu's near-constant grin this season leads us to one of three conclusions:

He is relentlessly optimistic.

He has an exceptional ability to compartmentalize.

He can be apathetic about his job performance.

It could even be a combination of them. After receiving a US$53-million contract in the summer , Turkoglu has had a disappointing start to his tenure with the Raptors.

Other than a slight uptick in his shooting percentage over last year, Turkoglu's per-game averages are down from his career numbers across the board. He is also scoring less per 36 minutes than he has in any season since 2003-04, when he was on a championship team in San Antonio.

Yet, he has shown a remarkable ability to keep his spirits high, which has been an annoyance to some fans, particularly during some of the season's more embarrassing losses.

NY DAILY NEWS

New York Knicks still evaluating Toronto Rapor Chris Bosh before 2010 free agency

Quote:
The Knicks brain trust is also split on what to make of him. Is he worth the money? Is he really that much of an upgrade over David Lee?
Those are legitimate questions about Bosh, who Friday night visits the Garden for the first time this season. Knicks president Donnie Walsh is hoping to have enough available cap space next summer to sign two impact free agents. Bosh is on the Knicks' radar, but his situation could change dramatically over the next month.
Bosh, a 6-10 All-Star, could be dealt by the Raptors before the Feb. 18 trading deadline if the club feels it doesn't have a realistic chance of re-signing him. Even though Toronto maintains that it is committed to building around Bosh, some NBA executives are convinced that he will head to Miami to play with Wade.
There have been reports of a possible trade with the Lakers as well as one with the Rockets. Bosh, who is from Dallas, has told close associates that if he leaves Toronto he wants to end up in a warm weather city.
Mike D'Antoni, who is a strong advocate for re-signing Lee, got to know Bosh during the 2008 Olympics. Asked yesterday where he thinks Bosh will end up, D'Antoni smiled and said, "I don't know....He might make the All-Star team."

I like.... her hair colour. And she's very nice to her mother.

(Shit... I just realized that I'm now worse than a guy, since I'm the first one to comment on the SSG...)

It doesn't suit her body type. She's fairly rectangular, so the style of suit does nothing for her. Girls with hips and small waists can rock it, though.

She's cute, but that swimsuit.

SSG, the morning of the shoot: "Hey, boyfriend of 12 years, do you like my bathing suit?"

Boyfriend: "Yeah, baby, it's...err, nice..."

SSG: "Thanks baby, you always say the right things!"

Oh no, we're not getting into that discussion again!

Here's a question, though... to all of you... if your chick was gonna be an SSG... what would you let her wear? And would you want her to look as sexy as possible, or not (knowing that a crapload of men may be looking and possibly drooling....)

I wouldn't care, wear whatever you want. If you want to do the sunshine girl, you already know (or at least think) you're hot.... So if you wanted to go "trade-up" on me, you would have already

What do I care if some stranger thinks my girlfriend is hot. As long as people don't come up to me and start telling me...It's the most awkward shit in the world when people do that to you.

Yep.

I think that as her b/f you'd have a pretty good idea of what she would wear to "look sexy" anyway so it wouldn't be much of a surprise.

If anything I'd be telling her to demand veto power over the final photo for the shot lol..... because some of these photographers make pretty girls look UGLY.

True enough... and in response to Reni, not all SSG's ARE hot.

Just wonderin'. Thanks, lovely gentlemen.

I would want her to look as hot as possible.

In fact, I get told on regular basis how beautiful my wife is and how lucky I am. Guys ask her out even though they know she's married.

Really though, she's the lucky one.

I think you missed the key words in brackets....It's not about whether or not they ARE...it's whether the THINK they are because their actions will follow from that.

Very few are hot haha
