Default Raptors could possibly honour Vince Carter

This was a e-mail i received. Not sure which newspaper it's from.

Raptors to Honor Vince Carter?

It sure would seem strange, but T.O.’s grudge has to be lifted at some point, right? “Raptors fans with long memories didn’t get the chance to boo Magic SG Vince Carter, who was scratched with an injury on Sunday. But that opportunity might come Nov. 22 at Air Canada Centre when the player who demanded out of Toronto after six-plus seasons will be … honored by the franchise as part of their 15th anniversary celebration. The Raptors say they will first ask Carter if he wants to go through with a ceremony, realizing the back-story. ‘Everybody wants to know how we can do it, but Vince is part of the history here,’ Raptors General Manager Bryan Colangelo told the Sentinel. ‘Most of the people that he had problems with here are gone.’ But it’s the fans who have booed Carter each time he has returned since the Raptors dealt him to the New jersey Nets in 2004.”

Honestly, i dont mind. I have a jersey of his framed up on my wall so I guess it would be cool if they honoured him. He is on the ticket for that game too

No matter what people think, he did great things for this franchise.

sadly I wish he left in a more mature and professional way.

He should get an invite. I don't like the guy but I realize what this is. Its a celebration of the 15 years of Raptors ball, not a celebration of Carter. If I was there I'd boo the guy still.

I disagree.

I understand why they would look at doing this, but I can't for the life of me, imagine it happening before he retires.

Yes VC was awesome for the city, and yes he put us on the map, and he probably deserves some kind of recognition, but the raptor fans of today were still the raps fans of 5 years ago...and it is not easily forgotten.

I would boo as well....as long as he is an active player in the NBA, I will boo

Yeah, I agree with you Benzo. You need to put this in perspective. He spent six years in Toronto and made it to the second round. Does anyone think that would be enough to get his jersey retired in Boston or L.A. or NYC? Hell no. If they did that the rafters would be full of jerseys. Think 30 or 40 years down the road. Think about all the franchise players to come. 6 years of flashy dunks and the second round exit is not greatness. Most guys who get their jersey retired at least play most of their career for that team and achieve something other than individual accomplishments. Carter plays for his own ego. Let him hang his Raptors jersey in his living room.

the way the league is now not one player can carry their team like the old days when you had one superstar and a bunch of really good role players. Look at Boston and Orlando it's scary. Vince blew his chance back in the day, though I think it would be cool to see people whip out old VC purple jerseys.

If they have a ceremony, and you Boo during that process, you tak eit personal, and thats very flawed character if you ask me.

I'd boo a guy on the foul line during a game for fun. But to be honest, a ceremony like that is a celebration of the sport in your city. Vince was a huge part of basketball in Canada.

ALSO

There are two sides to every story, as much as Vince wimped out in Toronto, the franchise itseld was horrible too. As a fan, I am so over that shit it isn't funny.

Then again, I'm all grown up.

I guess it's something for the fans..... maybe a good way to reflect and feel more like an established franchise and lose the "expansion" feeling.

I don't see it as being personal at all to boo a player in this case. He screwed the team over and I'm a fan of that team. If I want to show my displeasure for a player who did that then there is nothing wrong with that.

ALSO,

There is a thing called professionalism and Vince had none of that in his final season in Toronto.

I have principles and I am also all grown up.

Yeah and as such maybe he won't show up? Maybe he won't actually get the invite though. Not sure who decides it but if Peddie has something to do with it then maybe the invite gets lost in the mail...

I didn't realize this was his time of the month.

But it's nice of the fans to offer him some, if he needs them.
